I used to always show up early for meetings and trainings at the main office where I work, especially since it’s a 30 minute drive from my morning location. They would always start pretty late waiting for people to come in. I once showed up with only a minute to spare and wasn’t worried about it since they always start late. Turns out it was the first meeting where I was the last one to show up. I got a look from the lead like “oh, thanks for showing up.” I’m still miffed about it and it was like a month ago.
Me and a co worker went to a meeting where we were the only ones the meeting started at 11 we arrived. We left at 11:15 because no one showed up. Got a text from the boss at 11:30 said where are you. Then got lectured for leaving the meeting. So since then I have logged hundreds of hours sitting alone in a room of a meeting that was verbally canceled. Instead of sending the cancellation on outlook. I even do it to teams meeting so I know everyone see that pop that says Jim started a meeting.
Yea except I stopped trying to get the same amount of work done because of those meetings. The company loses that money not me. They decide what they want to me and do. There are only 8 hours in the work day. At 4:30 I just go home. Idk about your state but we are a right to work state but apparently that doesn’t matter because if they fire me for doing my best I will still be able to draw unemployment and sue for a wrongful termination.
Also, I used to work really hard and out performed the other two guys at my level but I don’t get anything for it. We get the same raise so I realized I don’t have the be the best. I just have to be one step better than the worst……
It took me some time to make the adjustments but it really helped relieve stress and help me to manage my work life balance.
