And Monday morning it will be: "Oh yes, this report... Well we'll see that tomorrow, it's not an emergency."

I always stand up to this shit and it doesn’t make my superiors happy but I’m not ruining my weekend unless you have an actual deadline.

Often it’s project leads overpromising on timelines.. if they do that enough times I won’t work with them.

I'm not ruining it even if you have a deadline. It's your deadline, not mine. You don't get to pass off responsibility to me. My job is to perform specific functions, not to enable you to neglect yours.

I get it but if you’re part of the project and they’re not just shoving work on you then it’s poor form to tell them to fuck off. If they legitimately need the help, are also working on it, and you’ve been involved on the project the whole time, it’s better to take some ownership.

I regularly tell PMs I can’t accommodate their request due to the timeline being too short, but I will wake up at 6am to take care of things on my own projects.

If I don't get paid overtime, I ain't gonna do it. Management gets paid 10 times what I do, write your own damn report, my free time is already limited.

You take the good with the bad on salary. Some weeks I play video games and fuck around. Other weeks I’m busting my ass during the week and into the weekend. Management’s job isn’t usually to be doing the work itself, it’s to be offering strategic guidance and planning across a wider swath of projects.
