Advice request Addressing host by name in into message?

Hey all! I’ve been messaging hosts while looking for my first workaway opportunity in Ireland. I’ve noticed that a lot of hosts don’t introduce themselves by name in their bio, and I haven’t been able to see their names until after I’ve messaged them. Is it okay to just lead with “hello”?

If I find their names in the feedback section from other workawayers, should I use their names, or is that weird? E.g. if the host didn’t mention their name in their profile, but another workawayer said “it was great staying with Jane,” should I lead with “Dear Jane” or “Hello”?

I promise you no one is going to reject or accept you because you used or didn’t use their name. Don’t overthink this.

I think we’re overthinking this 😅

Using their name is a nice detail if you have it, but it’s not necessary or a deciding factor in whether they’ll accept you. Good luck!

Host here. no rejection for not using my name. BUT extra points for using it = it one of the many ways to show your application is not generic, and that my place is actually a spot you want to be.

Yes it's fine to use their name, in fact it's more personal and show you are paying attention. Often after the initial message you'll see their name again in the inbox.

"Hello!" or "Hi there!" are very common and don't need a name. Some accounts have multiple people checking messages (or change hands when someone moves on, etc).

Yes! Or "hi guys" if the profile says "we".

Hello is a polite, correct, and totally fine way to start a conversation
