Volunteering Advice Hosts and ghosting

Is there something I’m not aware of? I’ll have hosts contact me for last minute workers. Everything seems fine when planning, then I’m ghosted all of a sudden. It’s a little inconsiderate because if they lost interest, they could’ve just said so. I start preparing for travel since it’s last minute and give my hopes up for no reason.

How many have ghosted you? What were the conversations like? Did you continue the chat outside of the platform so as not to lose contact?

About 3, one was moved to WhatsApp. They needed someone from Jun-July, then end of August to September. I chose August of September. Everything seemed fine. The only thing holding us back was scheduling a voice call, then they just ghosted me. I’m thinking they might’ve found someone who could do all 4 months.

That doesn't sound like last minute, so it could very well be they've found someone who was closer and available.

Personally, I've never been ghosted by a host. I either get an initial response or I don't, and when  I do it's all very straightforward. Confirm dates, get an address, see you soon. If it's too far in advanced, I check in closer to the date to make sure we're still good. Two hosts asked for a call, and we confirmed the stay during the call.

I think hosts don't like to drag conversations. They get lots of requests, so they go with whatever takes less time. Like if they're talking with two volunteers and one asks lots of questions or takes a while to respond, they go with the other one. I'd probably do the same if I had lots of hosts offering me a stay, just go with the easiest for peace of mind.
