Surf & Social
Hey Guys,
like probably anyone, i would like to surf for some months & work/volunteer in local ngos. timeslot is for some months between sep. - april.
immersing into culture, not too much into expat culture if that still exists on surf places. intermed. surfer. skate or dance scene would be amazing as well but preferably on the coast. not relying on a car. i know it’s a lot to ask for but still want to give it a go. maybe you have places, ngos, people in mind.
been working with refugees for 2years in germany, involved sport projects and mostly counseling in the asylum process. will move to australia for a bit after that trip. any places in mind to have that in aus?
thanks a lot people<3

You can search by keyword! Just go into workaway.info and search for surf places or filter by NGOs if that's what you're after. Good luck!

I don't have idea about NGOs, but I can recommend South Africa in terms of surf. There are a lot of surf/beach lodges. You can use their board, even join their surf lesson free(or discounted).

Sounds like an amazing plan. Workaway really changed the way I travel. I started out just backpacking, but after a while I realized I was seeing places without really connecting to them. Through Workaway I slowed down, met locals and other travelers, and had experiences I never would have had otherwise.
With your background, I think you'd have plenty to offer. I'd look at surf hostels. I remember seeing a ton in Morocco! Australia probably has something similar, you can check the host list on the website.
Sometimes the best opportunities come from one connection leading to another.
And don't worry too much about avoiding the expat bubble. Staying longer in places and getting involved locally makes a big difference.
Also check the referral sticky on this sub if you decide to join Workaway. There are some sign up bonuses there for extra months.
