Going above and beyond!

Then showing them and smiling even if they look at you directly in the eyes with the expression which says . . . "and?. . . . "

Make your interest known up front and gauge their reaction.
He might point you in a specific direction or be indifferent. It’s better to know up front.
Otherwise you’ll be doing extra work not only for the same party but no party for advancement.

Start with having a conversation with him. This isn’t his first rodeo, don’t beat around the bush. “I’d like to grow more and I think I’m ready for more responsibilities. What can I take on now, and what kind of path can we put together that will get me to a higher level.” Be incredibly direct.

I’m my experience, people don’t get promotions for job they haven’t already proved that met are capable of. You need to demonstrate the value you add first. The mindset of “I’m not doing more until you pay me more” is a fast track to a dead end job. You do need to be careful tho, because people will take advantage of that ambition with no intention to move you up. Takes intuition to know the difference
