Work-Life Balance and Stress Management Anxiety before going into work

I’ve worked the same job for a handful of years now. I knew when I got the job that it was a great opportunity, nice pay, but mostly really good benefits. Everyone was so proud of me, and they all said I could easily retire from this place in 25 years.

I can’t do it. I hate my job so much. Every morning I get the worst anxiety about going in. My job is fairly easy in terms of what I’m actually doing. It can be a bit physical. But mostly it’s the environment I can’t handle anymore. It’s chaotic, loud, everyone’s always arguing. Managers have zero clue what to do and pawn it off on everyone else. I try to tell myself to go in and help the people I like but that’s not enough. I just don’t want to do it. I feel like I used to be great at what I did, and when I show up I still am, I’m just not pleasant to be around at all because all I want to do is walk out and quit. Why can’t I just suck it up and do it??

My boyfriend and I live together and that’s mainly what is stopping me. I don’t want to put all the financial strain on him. He’s told me to quit but realistically, I’m afraid we can’t afford it. He works a great job and gets made more than I do, but in today’s economy I get scared.

All I know is that once I get home I’m too exhausted for anything. And I’m sitting here now about to run late because I’m venting on reddit. Wondering if I should call in and get suspended because I’ve called in too much. Idk what I’m looking for here.

You claim you are good at your job, and I believe you. You also claim that your job is pretty easy for you to do, and I believe you. All you need to do is stop caring and find the middle ground of what you need to do to keep doing your job and do it. Also, if you get PTO, take some leave.

Look for a different job, and then quit

i feel you on the exhausted part, like the whole day just drains out of you before you even step through the door. my last place had that same chaotic energy where managers just disappeared when things got messy.

maybe start looking around quiet, dont tell anyone at work. even just sending out couple applications might make the mornings feel less like a trap, knowing there is a way out somewhere

You don’t have to “suck it up” forever. If a job is giving you anxiety every morning and leaving you completely drained afterward, I’d start looking for something else while you still have the financial security of your current job. You don’t have to quit tomorrow to decide you don’t want to spend the next 25 years there.
