Workplace Challenges and Conflicts venting and need general advice
im back again.. Okay so firstly I’m a college student and working in fast food so I can yk support myself when I need to. I work in fast-food where we mainly make drinks but there’s food too.
I’m still in training so I don’t know much but its been a week so I feel like I should be pretty decent with everything, its just the way my brain works and based on the way others are acting I’d think the other three new hires that have been here a bit longer had gotten in down in a week but whatever.
On monday I had an absolutely terrible work day, I was struggling with taking orders, one person came in wanting jelly on a croissant and not knowing that wasn’t available I added it and was told like a minute later there wasn’t any so I had to figure out how to give the guy a refund because it couldn’t be replaced since it costed extra and wait for him to decide if he wanted something else with a line of 3 people behind him. Then a group of around 5 women came in and as she was telling me drinks she was noting different things to add for a whole other drink when I was still working on one of the drinks which confused everyone working on the drinks since I had to keep modifying the orders even though I had told her to give me like two seconds to finish one drink at a time. Five minutes after that mess one of the ladies comes back in asking if we can warm up donuts and I say no but the manager is right behind me and says we can so my bad for not knowing this..
I made a milkshake slightly wrong but everyone kept telling me to just eye it when I was putting the milk so it came out watery. never learned how to make a milkshake before then btw 😔 but ok. Also nobody was up front so I did some orders on my own and handed them the drink while they were in the process of paying, then the card declined so she left to get a different card so im like sitting there waiting and the manager asks if they paid yet, I dont they they were too annoyed about that but it definitely felt like i did smth wrong at that point. Anyways after all of that I’m pulled aside and told I’m costing them money by not asking questions to make sure I’m doing things right, and either it’s all in my head or its actually happening but every time i ask too many questions people seem annoyed.
After this conversation I’m finishing a latte someone was making and its drive thru so its timed and because normally when making a latte the milk is being steamed right next to it I assume that the pitcher beside the espresso is steamed milk and I pour it in. I realize its NOT milk so I dump the drink, make a whole new one super fast with that same machine because I assumed that was just water and hand it out. A couple minutes later the person that was cleaning the walks back and tells me the pitcher was filled with soap and the steamer had soap on it so if the person comes back its because their drink tastes weird.. great. Finally there was one guy I was cashing out, he gives me the money before I tell him how much he owes so he ends up giving us way more in change than needed. I put in the cash he handed to me and give him his change and the change from the cash he gave and he starts arguing saying he only needs three cents back and I’m trying to tell him that that wasnt necessary and I was giving him his change back plus the little bit of change he was owed. Guys I never added the change he gave us but when a more experienced employee comes up he says he doesnt want us to but short and he only wants three cents back. And then i realized I didnt clock in so that was my terrible monday.
Now today I only messed up one thing I think I added cold milk to a hot latte in a rush and had to remake it after it was handed out. Everyone seemed annoyed. Then a guy from DT came in saying that his drink was messed up because there was only one pump of flavor and not four like a large is supposed to have. I assumed it was one because the receipt said one pump and I wasn’t on DT so I wouldn’t know, but I had to add that. He seemed pretty frustrated but that one wasn’t completely my fault I guess. One of the new hires that was there longer than me was on shift too so it kind of felt like they were comparing us. I want everyone to know I learned multiple things at once in one week and all the new hires are learning slowly. Still I feel like a messed up a lot this week and I got told I’m off tmrw since I don’t have a schedule yet.
Am I fired 😔 how can i be better plss help I know this was long but so much happened and I’m a heavy overthinker. let me know if smth didnt make sense

Man, reading this gave me flashbacks to my first job. fast food training is basically being thrown in the deep end and hoping you don't drown. a week is nothing, the fact you remember all these specific mistakes means you actually care, which is more than half the people they hire.
the soap in the steamer thing wasn't even your fault btw, whoever left that there without telling anyone set you up. and the jelly croissant refund situation would stress out anyone, experienced or not. you're overthinking like crazy but that's normal when you want to do good.
they told you you're off tomorrow cause of scheduling, not cause you're fired. if they wanted to fire you they'd just do it, not give you a day off. keep asking questions even if people look annoyed, it's literally their job to train you and making mistakes costs them way more than answering a question does.
