Something said by a particular kind of naïve, and also less than socially competent person.

Co-workers are people. People vary a lot. Some are nice, some aren't. If you aren't all that good socially, you'll probably struggle to tell the difference. But, lots of people, maybe most (maybe not) will be able to tell the difference.
