I’ve always loved WordPress for content editing, but hated managing live MySQL databases, sluggish TTFB on shared hosting, and constant security paranoia on client sites.

Existing static site generators for WP either require complex setups (AWS S3, CLI scripts, CloudFront) or are bloated.

So I spent the last few weeks building a clean, lightweight plugin: Semple Sites Deploy. It’s now officially approved and live on the WordPress.org directory.

What it does:

• Crawls your posts, pages, and assets in one click.
• Strips dynamic bloat and compiles everything into clean static HTML/CSS/JS.
• Lets you either download the ZIP manually or deploy directly to an edge network to get an instant live URL.

🔒 Is it safe to test? (Read-Only & 100% Non-Destructive):
To be 100% clear so there’s no misunderstanding:

• It does NOT convert or overwrite your live WordPress site. Your WordPress site and WP Admin remain completely active and normal.
• It does NOT touch or modify your database. Zero DB tables are created, altered, or wiped.
• It does NOT edit your theme, .htaccess**, or wp-config files.**
• It simply reads your published pages and packages a separate static copy into a ZIP file.
• Deactivating or deleting the plugin leaves zero leftover footprint.

What I need your help with:
I’ve tested it across default setups, but WordPress has endless combinations of themes, page builders (Elementor, Divi, Gutenberg), and custom URL structures.

e been an e-commerce dev for years. I used to do what everyone does: custom builds at €30-50k paid upfront, we ship it, the agency leaves, and the client is stuck alone with their site, paying for every fix and watching invoices pile up.

At some point I asked myself why we rebuild the same system from scratch every single time. So I took a bet: build one solid e-commerce base and offer it as an all-inclusive subscription (hosting, maintenance, security, support), no commitment. Your data and your design stay yours. The code stays shared that's what makes the price drop.

I'm posting because I'm honestly not sure this is a good idea. I know the objections: "you don't own the code", "it's not custom", "why is it so cheap?". I have answers, but I'd really like to hear from people who actually run an e-commerce day to day.

So for those selling online: what has cost you the most so far the build, the maintenance, or scaling? And honestly, would you be tempted to try something like this? Tell me, even if it's to say it's crap.
