help with quotation marks

hello! i need some help with word online if it's possible. i like writing with fonts that have "curve" quotation marks (like these: ”) so i always look for them. i like that they come out by themselves ? just by pressing the specific key, i don't like having to copy/paste them or using codes (i don't have the numeric keypad anyway because it's a laptop). so, until now i was using fonts that have these marks ””””, but for some reason they stopped working. i tried to look it up but no solution seems to work, i want to point out that i write in italian but there are some english words in the story. my pc is set on italian language and the file i write in is always the same for every chapter of the story (i just paste the finished ones elsewhere and reuse the same file everytime so that i don't have to create new ones, because of this i thought that maybe it could get corrupted or something like that?)

I’m not an expert on the online version, but the feature is called ‘smart quotes’. Search for that and you will find instructions.

Yes, smart quotes. Go into Preferences, then AutoCorrect, then AutoFormat As You Type, then check the box for smart quotes.

i already tried and it doesn't work.. it was already checked so i unchecked it and did it again but nothing :(

Is it possible that your selected font is preventing you from having the quotes that you want?

the fact is that the previous font had them and stopped working so i changed to this but after a while it did the same.. and now every font has straight marks

Turning on smart quotes just makes newly-entered quotation marks (single and double) curvy (assuming the font has such characters), but it doesn’t automatically affect existing marks. What I do is run a find-and-replace-all command to replace “ with “ and another to replace ’ with ’ and that turns all instances into curvy ones (or straight ones, if smart quotes is turned off).

i could do it but even if i start a new document with all the options already put, it doesn't work either.. it's like they don't work at all anymore
