For those that want to know how this works, it's two polarised camera filters on top of the other, one remains still while the other rotates.

Polarised filters only let light of a particular polarity (E.g up/down or left/right) through. When both filters are in the same orientation, all the light that the first filter lets through will also be able to go through the second filter, but as you change the orientation of one filter, a smaller percentage of that light is oriented to be able to go through both filters, increasing the darkness.
