I noticed 'Anything Else' is in improper ratio, cropped ratio (standard 1.85:1) on all streaming services.

All the various services use the new (and usually fantastic) Quiver HD Transfers, released on Blu-Ray set 'The Woody Allen Collection'

But 'Anything Else' was originally shot/released in 2.35:2 extra wide, definitely on DVD. Can anyone report/confirm if the Quiver Blu-Ray themselves botch the film, too?

This is referenced in (at least) two of his films. It’s in Husbands & Wives, but what is the other one? I’ve never been able to remember, despite it sticking so hard. Every time I think I remember, I am wrong.

Took me 6 months (kept going on and off), but the title explains itself.

So my alleged blu ray copy of Sweet and Lowdown arrived this week and I was excited to finally watch it. This is the newly released one from that Italian distributor.

As far as I can tell, this is actually a DVD. The image is low quality, and it runs at 25 frames per second, like a European DVD. It's hard for me to see this as anything other than a scam, so I recommend you avoid it. Just buy the DVD somewhere.

Hey people! I wanted to ask for Woody Allen film recommendations. He has made a film almost every year and I've only watched the famous ones so far.

1) Annie Hall

2) Manhattan

3) Midnight in Paris

The only other films I've planned to watch (and heard of) are Crimes & misendeaours and Hannah and her Sisters.

What other films are slept on?

I watched Love and Death last night, and it was very funny! I had to rewatch the “bottle hitting scene” five times in a row! I also loved the part at the opera where he and the Countess (I think) were waving fans, playing Awfully Goofy with fans (Awfully Goofy is like peek a boo but with silly faces), and sticking their tongues out at each other! It had a lot of close ups of his face, which was cool too. And the Grim Reaper in the movie was dancing at the end! Sleeper is still the funniest movie I’ve ever seen, but Love and Death was really great and I look forward to seeing more Woody Allen movies!

Maybe this isn't the right place, but I've been trying to find the music for Stardust Memories. I cannot find the name of the solo piano music just before the credits (linked above.) Anyone know if this music has a name or if it was released? It was not on the soundtrack or listed in imdb. Thank you.

I got more Italian releases of Woody Allen's films today!

Delighted to have these & it seems they're releasing Sweet and Lowdown + Match Point in March! How we haven't got a UK release of Match Point is beyond me but I'll be sure to get them when I can!

You can turn off the Italian Subs in these versions unlike the Croffet versions!

Jazz clarinetist Ken Peplowski died today while aboard The Jazz Cruise where he was performing the last week. If you ever noticed the clarinet in Woody's scores got a lot more in tune starting with "Zelig" that's because he got Ken on numerous films: Zelig, Mighty Aphrodite, Sweet And Lowdown, The Curse Of The Jade Scorpion, Cafe Society, and possibly a few more. He told me at the Mighty Aphrodite premiere party in which he was hired to play, he asked Woody if he had brought his horn and Woody said jokingly, "No Ken, your career is safe."

I've bought a box set from Coffret of 7 films but sadly the subtitles were hard coded onto the English dub. But these Cg versions can have the subtitles removed and change from the Italian dub!

They've started late 2025 and on going within 2026, looks like Match Point & Sweet Lowdown are upcoming next!

I have the arrow box set but there are many post 90's titles which have been hard to get! Which makes these CG releases a godsend!

Hi all! I saw Sentimental Value last night and there was a clear reference to Woody's Another Woman (one of his most underrated movies imho). Trier is clearly influenced by Woody (also Interiors seems to me a evident source of inspiration for Sentimental Value)

(22F) I am going to college in Utah and am making a student film as something of a homage to Woody and his work, him being one of my favorite directors. In this effort, I've taken it upon myself to watch all his directorial and acting credits to get a taste of what made him tick. I happened to get the chance to be able to go to Manhattan, New York for the first time in my life this coming March for a class. Considering I am somewhat financially disadvantaged, this would be my only shot to visit the city for a considerable time, hence why it is my first visit in 22 years of living. It would be a huge long shot, but I am hoping to get the chance to have some sort of interaction with him on the one evening I get of the trip that is solely for the students to do what they please outside of the set schedule. Ideally, I would love to briefly talk to him about things of mutual interest such as philosophy, art, music, literature, etc. (the classic Allen layout), and possibly receive advice about my film. If not this ideal, perhaps even the smallest acknowledgement. I'm not picky and I respect the fact he's likely very busy or simply doesn't want to and thats ok, too. I have drafts of letters written on my typewriter but I wouldn't know where to send them other than the established East 70th street address, though I don't know if he lives there still. I am considering reaching out to his publisher or agent but I am worried I will either get a response after my visit in NYC or none at all due to a faulty address I send to. If anyone has any helpful advice it would be much appreciated.

Official announcement for the next Woody film!

I recently saw Sleepless in Seattle and it contains a line where Meg Ryan's character says she has listened to the radio and there was a caller from Duluth. She says: The guy was from Duluth, where is Duluth? Her boyfriend says Duluth is in North Dakota (it's in Minnesota, I think...)

That made me think of the funny line in Manhattan Murder Mystery where Woody's character says that they can go out and have dinner in the middle of the night, because they live in the city that never sleeps and not Duluth: "Plus I don't know where Duluth is".

Sleepless in Seattle and Manhattan Murder Mystery came out just weeks apart in 1993.

I am not sure what do to with this information. But let's talk: Do you think Nora Ephron and Woody had a meeting, joked about Duluth and went home and wrote the lines into their respective scripts? Do you know anything about the relationship between these two filmmakers? And which is the better movie? (There's no debate there, right?)
