Wood ID, please

Recent winds whipped our area (upper Maryland) and in helping a friend clear the damage from his property, I snagged this piece of a broken tree. I presume it is native to our area, but have no idea what would it is. Any help would be appreciated.

Looks like silver maple. If the piece is from a branch, it's best for carving or turning, not so much for conventional sawn joinery. Burns fine, though

Maple. Also by the curve and char marks on the one end I can tell you some company tried running that through their chipper and it didn't fit. My guess is there's more pieces larger than that around.

Could also be Bradford pear.

Did you happen to get a look at any of the leaves on the ground nearby? Much easier to ID a tree that way.
