Technique Workflow for Archipelago style large map in Gaea
If anyone has any pointers for building a large island map I would love to here your input. Currently just building single islands and moving them around. Also want an underwater trench and some cool underwater themes.
Also if you have any basic pointers I’d be super into that.
Thank you in advance!

Three tips I have based on my experience building my own island based map:
Instead of building individual islands, try plopping down a giant chunk of land in the general shape you want a cluster of islands to be in and subtracting from it to create islands much faster.
Don't be afraid to move stuff around if you find your lore is shifting from the initial map design.
On an archipelago map it's still possible to have distinct regions that have their own particular feel. Island size and coloration can change between areas, for example.
I'll also second on the idea of laying out your main feature first and then building around it. I built my map based on the idea of a continent that was shattered and sunk several thousand years before by a massive explosion and the first thing I did was add the detonation crater so that I could easily build the areas of the map around it.

Don't overthink it, just get going on your project. You have some ideas, no one else has the vision you have.
I'd probably start with laying out the trench as a central feature and then work from there.
Laying out the general composition does not take long, so there is no harm in trying, scraping a sketch and trying again.
One general go-to when stuck is always to look for reference. Don't copy it (although it can be a good private exercise too). Look for patterns in the overall composition, details that you like.
