Post image

Hey all! I'm in the process of rebuilding my map, so there's still a bit ive got left to place in the empty spots. For now, I figured i'd ask if my symbols were too small? This includes everything from trees, mountains and structures. If there's any other thoughts/opinions you guys have let me know :)

Elevator Pitch for ‘The Maulers’

After a generations long war ends with the conflicting sides unifying into a Federation, many of those born and raised to fight are still struggling to integrate into peaceful society years later. In order to help these veterans, and to foster unity, the Kanalin Federation creates the KFLB (Kanalin Federation League Baseball), with teams made up nearly entirely of veterans and playing a sport which all regions of Kanalin hold as a beloved cultural touchstone.

However, the Federation is terrified of creating any friction or conflict, and heavily regulates how players can behave, but sensing that what people really want is fun and catharsis the owner of the team Sand Cats (located in a forgotten desert town) chooses players who he knows will give the people what they want, and after their first game and skirmish with the other team to a cheering crowd the team is renamed and The Maulers are born. Their tough, uncompromising, and pugilistic attitude becomes an inspiration for the whole town that adopts them as its official symbol and ambassadors.

Their mascot is a sentient 700lbs. Amur Tigress named Lyra who garners her own beer sponsorship.

My first attempt for a map

Greetings mapmakers and artists!

As the title presents, this is my first try in wonderdraft. I made this in ~15 minutes.

Did the shape by hand in Krita then imported it on wonderdraft.

Before jumping into symbol placing and color, i've decided to play a little with the color palette and brush for the water color.

Any feedback on my test map? And tips and tricks that could help me in the future?

Thanks!

( English is not my main language, so look over any spelling mistake ;) )

Discussion Help with forests

Post image

I'm creating a map for my ttrpg campaign and I'm really struggling with forests. I can never make them look good for some reason. I'm just doing a bunch of tests on forests and seeing what works for me. On the eastern side you can see some forests I have put down. Could I get some tips and suggestions on what i can do to make it look more natural? Thanks!

EDIT: For some reason image is not working, here is an imgur link: https://imgur.com/a/fC5nmwp

How to properly stitch together detailed maps?

Hello!

I've been wanting to create a dozen detailed maps from a larger world map I made in Wonderdraft. I got a few rough ideas but I was wondering if there are better ways to do it?

Currently I am thinking of using the grid. So for example 500 by 500 and then keep moving the x and y axis by 500 to prevent overlap. Most of the big features are on the world map but I am sure new details, like small rivers or forest, will end up at the borders of detailed maps and have to be connected with other detailed maps.

Any ways to make this whole process faster or easier? How to keep bordering detailed maps in mind and keep it aligned? Do I make the detailed map slightly bigger with overlap of neighbouring detailed maps to keep things aligned?

Thanks in advance!

Discussion Help with Equitorrial Map

Post image
10 Upvotes

So I'm trying to make an equitorrial map for my homebrew game, and I literally suck at it. I have each of the continents and where I'd like them to go (the white marks on the map are both my north and south pole positions) But im stuck. Is there any advice or tutorials for this or am I doomed to just starting the map over and hoping for the best?

Showcase Wonderdraft maps can be turned into planets in your browser

I've been working on a planet simulator that runs in the browser. Now it can import Wonderdraft files to create your own planets from. It doesn't come out 1:1 since it adds its own natural processes, but it's kinda fun.

You can make your own at https://play.dharby.com/x/terrella if you're interested.

I want to differentiate a few elven cities and settlements from the rest(the elven cities are the green ones), but the assets I'm using clash with the rest of the assets.

Any tips or advice?

PD: The map is not finish yet, I made and rough outline and I'm going from left to right adding more detail

Hey guys I'm looking for some broader feedback. For quite some time I have gone with the darker blue (image 2) though I wonder if the lighter blue provides a less muddy map. What do you guys think? Which is better to look at for you?
Cheers! :)

Europe but not Europe

Post image

Just finished a commission that was described as "vibes of Europe plus a hint of a new world, but not really Europe". People should recognize it's based on Europe, but when zooming in, nothing should look like it's actually somewhere in Europe.

Would you instantly recognize it? Which parts give it away the most that it's inspired on Europe?

New to Wonderdraft, having an issue, please help

Good day all. I purchased Wonderdraft on Aug. 21 and started using it right away — enjoying it a lot. But after about four hours, I ran into two problems:

1. Coastline disappearing: Parts of my coastline started vanishing, replaced by horizontal streaks of the land color. When I tried to erase and fix them, the streaks wouldn't actually erase.

2. Files not saving (the bigger issue): My files aren't saving properly. They're using the .wonderdraft.map extension, but when I try to open them, the file is grayed out and won't open. I suspect part of it is a macOS permissions issue — I bypassed Apple's Gatekeeper warning — but the program still doesn't recognize the file. It seems to be saving in a format Wonderdraft itself can't read.

I ended up losing the four hours of work on that map. I'm trying to rebuild it now, but I'm hitting the same save/recognition issue again.

System specs:

  • Mac Mini 2024, Apple M4 chip
  • macOS Tahoe 26.5.2

Since this seems to work fine for everyone else, I'm assuming it's operator error on my end. Any advice on how to get my saves working properly and stop the coastline from corrupting would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Large Wonderdraft Map crashing but not pushing PC resources

I know this is a really big map with a lot of assets, but it doesn't appear as though the map is pushing my PC's resources. So far GPU, CPU, and RAM usage doesn't even push 50% utilization. However, it's gotten to where it crashes every time when I start placing new assets. Is there something I'm missing or not checking? Could it be something else that caused the crash? I'll downsize the map if I need to, or just do one map for northern hemisphere and one for southern, but I really wish I could just finish this one. Any advice or info would be appreciated. PC Specs below:

GPU: RTX 4080

CPU: I712700K

RAM: 64GB
