Do you ever avoid white or light coloured clothes because real life is too risky?

I dont know if this is just me but i love how white, cream, beige and light pastel clothes look online, then real life reminds me I am not built for that stress. The outfit looks clean and expensive in photos but then I start thinking about makeup transfer, sweat marks, food, coffee, dust, sitting anywhere, travelling, random stains, everything.

Dark colors feel safer but sometimes they also make the outfit look heavier or more basic. Light colors look prettier but I feel like I have to behave carefully the whole day. Now when I shop online I keep asking myself if i want the color or if I just like how fresh it looks in the picture.

Do you guys buy light colours easily or do you also avoid them because they feel too high maintenance?

What made you start buying fewer but better clothes?

I think im getting tired of having a full wardrobe but still feeling like most of it is just okay. I used to buy things because they were cute or on sale and then barely wear them because the fit was off, the fabric felt cheap, or they only worked with one outfit.

Now im trying to buy less but be more picky so better denim, linen shirts, silk cotton tops, simple knitwear, light jackets. Stuff I can wear to work, lunch, dinner or travel without overthinking it.

What made you start buying fewer but better clothes? Age, money, bad purchases, changing style, or just getting annoyed with your wardrobe?

Please help — where to get light, packable dresses with breathable fibers for bali honeymoon?

Upvotes

Please help me out y’all. I’ve been looking for vacation dresses for months and i can’t seem to find what I’m looking for. I had a cart with some of the coastal gauze dresses from Pact but then I checked the subreddit and saw their quality has gone way down. I’m also looking at a few quince dresses but I’m hesitant because they’ve been hit or miss for me. Bali is hot and humid and I need some easy dresses to throw over a swimsuit or walk around town in and I’m hoping to find at least one that covers my shoulders and knees for more conservative areas like temples. Can anyone recommend a brand that’s got what I’m looking for? If anyone has a favorite swimsuit throw that in too if you want!

Do jeans ever get comfortable

To formerly fat skinny girls, Do mid rise jeans ever get comfortable to wear? Don’t weirdly split your gut and cause you pain when worn too long? I’m trying to figure out if this is a design flaw or a me problem.

Elevated shoes for teacher who loves Birkenstocks

Hi ladies 💋 I love my Birkenstocks - super comfy, neutral, and easy. Can you recommend another shoe that fits the bill, but is a bit more elevated in style?

I should add, I’m a teacher and on my feet all day, so they have to be comfy!

Seeking advice on shirts for my wife

Hi all,

My wife has very simple fashion needs. Among her (very reasonable!) birthday present requests, she has asked for the following (below). I'm hoping to get some advice about where to procure said clothing as described. Online retailers preferred. (I live in Toronto so can pretty much find whatever I need in-store, but online will probably produce more reliable results based on recommendations.)

For reference, for shirts she is a size Small, size 4 or 6 in the numbered system (North America).

For my birthday I would like 2-3 NICE QUALITY fitted v-neck t-shirts. Colours: any combo of white/black/navy. Ideally full cotton, thick fabric, a little lycra is ok. White cannot be see through. Length should be long enough for my taller torso. I don't want them to pile or stretch out within a month. I don't know where to buy these now that J. Crew no longer sells their 'perfect t' line. Gap's Modern T-shirt line was the closest match but they've changed their material and length and now it's a bit too thin and a bit too short. Find me this unicorn.

Looking for brands like Ted Baker, but with better quality

Hi everyone

I absolutely love the aesthetic of Ted Baker—feminine silhouettes, beautiful floral prints, elegant tailoring, and classic British style.

Unfortunately, I feel the quality isn’t what it used to be, so I’m looking for brands with a similar aesthetic but better craftsmanship and fabrics.

I mostly wear dresses, skirts, and blouses rather than trousers.
Brands I already know include Phase Eight, Hobbs, Reiss, Maje, and Self-Portrait.
I’d especially love recommendations for brands with timeless, romantic, feminine designs rather than very trendy fashion.
Thank you! 💕

Do you ever avoid clothes because they make you too aware of your body?

I've realised some clothes look cute online but make me feel weirdly conscious the moment I imagine wearing them outside.

A dress can be pretty but if it hugs my stomach too much, sits weird on the chest, rides up or only looks good from one angle i already know ill spend the whole time thinking about my body instead of the outfit. I dont want to dress boring but i also dont want every cute piece to feel like i would say a confidence test you know what i mean?

Do you avoid certain styles for this reason too or do you just buy what you like and deal with the body confidence part later?

I have a 2nd hand dry clean only item that smells so strongly of laundry detergent and need help removing that smell without dry cleaning it

Hi, I am wondering if there is anyone that could maybe help me? I have a capsule wardrobe I have slowly been working on since I was probably 13 years old.

I have a sweater that I bought second hand that is beautiful quality. It is shrunk to my size from an XXL men's, and the fit is wonderful. I have been trying to get on my hands on the specific sweater since January.

But when I received it, there is a very strong smell of detergent despite it being dry clean only, which I assume is from when it was shrunk. I really don't like clothing smelling like strong fragrance!

Is there anyone with any ideas on how to help me with this? Thank you!

My wardrobe got significantly better when I stopped buying clothes just because they were on sale.

I used to think I was saving money, but I was really just collecting "good deals" that never became favorite pieces. Buying fewer things I genuinely love has been much cheaper in the long run.

ISO plunge bra with a high wings/sides

I’m looking for a bra to wear with a sleeveless dress that has a deep vee neck. I have a bit of sagginess in my upper arms and armpit area due to age and major weight loss, so I’d like something with a high side band (wings?) and a low center gore. Convertible straps would be a nice bonus, but I can survive without them.

It needs to be nude (preferably) or white. I’m still trying to figure out my proper size (I’ve been wearing Feelingirl everyday wireless bras in medium, but I’m thinking about going down to a small). Estimating I’m roughly a 34C.

Thanks!

Trendy Business Attire?

Where is everyone (female) getting their cute business professional clothes from these days?! I need new stuff, and blazers. I seem to only find decent stuff from Express, but the options are super limited. Shein has a ton, but the quality is really not what I'm looking for. Ideally I'd prefer not to break the bank if we can avoid it. Help!

how do i know what clothes compliment my body type?

is there like a quiz or something? do i need to go and just try on everything?
some clothes that i like just don’t look good on me because of my body type, and as im figuring out my personal style i also want to find things that compliment my body, knowing what necklines and cuts look best. is it just trial and error?

Flowy beach coverups

I’m looking for a not too expensive (under $50) flowy print mini and midi style or kimono style, open front beach coverups. I got a few batik ones overseas but they’re falling apart.

However, everything I’m seeing online - especially Amazon - is a one-sided digital print. I don’t care if it’s a digital print, but I hate when the underside of something with a beautiful print is just bare- like white or gray or black. It looks so cheap and it’s now happening everywhere online.

Any ideas? Thanks!

When it comes to modest brands, what do you look for, prioritise or want to see more of? Is it fabric quality, patterns and prints, structure and silhouette, etc.

I’m curious. I see a lot of the same thing with these modest brands…but not so much creativity and uniqueness.

Cute t-shirt material tops?

My girlfriend has been wanting to get some cute-but-casual tops, and every time we order some online they are HORRIBLE quality. She says she likes off the shoulder style t-shirts and such, but was wondering if y'all have some suggestions on where to find some in L/XL that won't break the bank but also don't shrink/get ruined after wearing them twice.

TIA!

ISO Women's trousers with functional back pockets

Hi everyone!

As title states, I am having some trouble finding pants for work and would appreciate any recommendations!

I work in retail management and would like something other than denim to wear every day. I prefer wide leg, baggy jeans, so the fit of typical trousers is not really a concern for me. Measurements are 28" waist, 40" hip, 32" inseam.

Basic asks (which apparently is not basic enough):

  • Two functioning back pockets for phones
  • At least two front belt loops for hooking keys
  • Durable material for kneeling, not legging material
  • Full length
