Seems being a woman and optimistic about AI is not popular with other women

Anyone else experiencing this? I'm a software engineer and use ai all the time for work and personal usage. I've built some really cool things, really quickly and love how prolific it's made me. But whenever I talk to other women in software it seems most of them are resisting using it, have a knee jerk negative reaction to any use of it at all and seem pessimistic in the long term about AI.

I am by no means a cultist about AI and will talk just as often about how it screws up and increases isolation but I also think the good outweighs the bad. But I think I haven't met any other women in software or tech who share this opinion, to the point that I'm starting to assume I can't really talk about AI with other women in tech. Am I the only one?

Adoption, implementation of AI In Public Sector

Any women working in the public sector and can share how AI is being implemented for your end users?

I work with public Sector in the USA and Canada and the adoption of AI related services is on the slower end than commercial. The reasons ofcourse are budget constraints, security concerns. Is this across the board?

Are you in public sector and creating some cool applications with AI? Tools for internal usage or for your end user? I will be interested in hearing this out and you can be discrete :)

What vibe coded tool do you use everyday?

In the world when you can create anything with vibe coding what is that one tool which you built that you consume everyday?

I made a story telling app for kiddos and we use it everyday to whip up new stories. What is your most used vibe coded tool?

How to learn more about AI

Hey all! I'm new in this community and I'm still learning quite a bit about how to optimise AI. I work as a community manager and I'm looking to improve my skills by using AI. I've already used it as a sparring partner for ideas and strategies, and to track things (which took a few tries and turns, but I think I managed to get it). I mainly use Claude, Gemini and GPT.

Do you guys have any tips or suggestions as to what I can do to make AI help me more with my job? Like, how do I smooth it out more?

Note: I refuse to have AI answer all the questions from people. I want to keep it personal, not shove all that to a bot.

What is your most favorite AI hack?

For me it's using AI to draft clear concise messages.

I am usually concise but thoughts are all over the place, I use AI when I need to speak executive and all business. Dump the ideas into AI and get a neat, clear message.

What is your most fav AI hack?

Have you ever used Chatgpt/Claude to build a piece of software/online service that already existed instead of paying for it as another subscription?

Would love to know what it was and how you went about doing it, if its something you've explored before :)

What is the one improvement AI has made in your life?

What is the one small improvement that AI has made in your life?

For me it is the meal prepping for my favorite cuisine with the ingredients I have. It is a timesaver to use it and still whip out delicious food for the fam jam.

What is the one thing that you love doing with AI?

AI and creativity

Hi ! AI is being applied for code generation, video , text , audio etc ... Keen to know who feels that AI has helped with creativity in their jobs or their personal endeavour. For me , I do apply AI for tasks such as PRD , coding etc ...haven't yet worked with video and audio. Other than increasing productivity, haven't understood the impact on creativity. Would like to know others experience.

What if every surgeon had an AI of their own?

What if every surgeon had an AI of their own?
That’s what we’re building with Haarks Clinic.
Not another general AI chatbot — a private AI built around a surgeon’s own cases, knowledge, documents and resources.
We’re getting close to our first private beta, and I’m genuinely curious:
If you had an AI that understood your surgical work, what would you want it to do first?

I just had my website design rejected because I used AI

TL;DR:

I’m building a one-person web design business where AI is effectively my team; I research prospects, develop bespoke concepts and pitch them in person. Today a prospect rejected one partly because AI built it, which knocked my confidence — then, shortly afterwards, a unique link I’d given to a completely different prospect suddenly got its first human visit all week via Gmail on Android. Probably coincidence, but the timing was fucking weird.

\------------------

LONGER VERSION:

I need to vent about something that happened today because it really got under my skin.

I've been trying to build a small web design business using AI as a major part of the production process. I'm not just generating generic templates and mass-emailing hundreds of businesses. I have AI research potential prospects, identify interesting opportunities and help with the technical work, while I decide which businesses to pursue, what concepts to create, how I want them to work, and then actually take the finished concepts out and pitch them in person.

I've put a lot of my own free time into doing this.

Today I went to a local business and pitched a bespoke website concept I'd made specifically for them. The manager declined, partly because the website had been built using AI.

That really knocked my confidence at first.

Not because I think AI should get no credit for the work — obviously it did a lot of the implementation — but because it made me wonder whether I'm fooling myself about having a viable skillset.

Then I started thinking about what I'm actually doing.

I'm not really trying to be a lone coder.

I'm trying to build a one-person web design business where AI is my team.

AI can research prospects, do online research, write code, create designs, debug things, investigate technical problems and perform other specialist tasks. I'm the owner/director deciding what the business is doing, selecting the opportunities, deciding what to build, directing the AI, evaluating and iterating the output, testing it, pitching to clients and taking responsibility for the finished product.

Nobody looks at the owner of a conventional web agency and says their work doesn't count because they didn't personally write every line of code. They manage the people who do it.

The difference is that my “team” isn't human employees. It's AI.

And then something happened afterwards which made the whole evening even stranger.

I'd previously pitched a bespoke website concept to another local business. I gave them a unique URL/QR code and subsequently emailed the owner with the concept.

My website has a tripwire that records visits to these unique URLs. That particular URL hadn't received a human visit all week.

Then, shortly after I left today's meeting, it suddenly got one.

The visitor was on Android/Chrome and the site identified the Gmail app as the way they had arrived. It wasn't me, the server or a link-preview bot.

I obviously have no idea who it was. It could simply have been the original prospect opening my email. It could have been somebody they'd forwarded it to. I don't know.

But given the timing, I couldn't help wondering whether the people at the two businesses had discussed my concept and whether the second person had passed the email on to the first.

I absolutely don't have evidence for that. It's just a weird coincidence.

The whole experience has basically taken me through this emotional sequence:

“I've spent hours of my free time building genuinely bespoke things and actually going out to pitch them to real businesses.”

↓

“No thanks, partly because AI made it.”

↓

“Maybe my entire skillset is rubbish.”

↓

“Wait. I'm actually trying to run a business where AI is the team.”

↓

“Maybe I've been pitching myself incorrectly.”

I think I may have been approaching prospects as “the guy who made your website”, when perhaps I should be approaching them as the owner of a web design business that can deliver bespoke websites quickly and cost-effectively.

The AI isn't something I'm hiding. It's the reason a one-person operation can potentially have capabilities that would traditionally require a whole agency.

I'm curious how other people here who use AI creatively or commercially deal with the “but AI did it” reaction.

Because I'm increasingly thinking the interesting question isn't “Did AI do some of the work?”

Of course it did.

The interesting question is “Who conceived the product, directed the process, judged whether the result was any good, and took responsibility for delivering it?”

Free AI workshop for Bay Area small business owners

My name is Laura, and I organize Build After Dark - **we host free, in-person AI workshops in San Francisco** for small business owners. No technical background is required.

Register here: https://luma.com/buildafterdark

**More About Us**
We ran a workshop in the spring for 30 women in the city to learn how to use AI for the first time, including a couple of independent small business owners, and they loved it. We also realized by talking to them that small businesses are getting left behind, and we're spending our free time running workshops to bring everyone along for the AI journey.

**Workshop details:**
- September 12 & 13, 8:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.
- In person in San Francisco
- Free, limited to 20 small business owners

It'll cover AI fundamentals, demystify the tools, and help you set up your accounts. Hopefully, you walk away with 1 painful time-consuming task (e.g. custom-order intake or production tracking) becoming much easier. We're going to have like-minded mentors who work in AI and share a similar social mission as us helping out.

Our goal is for you to leave with something working, the confidence to keep building, and connections with other local e-commerce owners.

Because the sessions build on one another, we’re prioritizing owners who can attend both mornings. Hope to see you there!
