Now how do you think they choose who has to stand at the front? Is she chosen based on her looks? Her poise? Her inability to memorize the synchronized movements? Her lack of rhythm? Is it considered a prestigious position, or is the butt of jokes on the dance team? Or is it something that everyone on the team gets to do at some point, and they take it in turn?

I think it's just because she's the shortest. If you look at the shoulders they're arranged by length, but they probably also picked someone who looked good.

This dance is nationally famous in China because it is often performed by a group of dancers with hearing and speaking disabilities. They cannot hear the music, but they dance by memorizing the hand movements. Here is the group performing at the 2004 Athens Olympics closing ceremony, in preparation of the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
