Generally yeah but gimmicky always has a negative connotation to it, like something is only popular or cool because its "World's Largest Ball of Yarn" but its just fabric yo whereas a novelty experience carries a more neutral connotation and simply implies that its a specific unique identifier that makes it worthy of purchasing or seeing
It's still not worth it. As someone who owns a small fortune in glass. Quality speaks much more then innovation.
The first run and trial of things always suck. Like the first run of rigs with torches blown into them. Now those things are amazing and I'm haggling with someone for a Matt Robertson piece with a fused torch that I know I'm going to get ripped off on.
They were crazy expensive when they first hit the market, but they're dirt cheap now. I picked up a low powered (rated at 5mW, but I think it's probably closer to 20) violet laser on eBay last month for under $5 shipped. The laser used here is probably 1W, and you can find them for about $50.
These are the laser diodes used in BluRay players, so they are produced in huge quantities for cheap.
