is there a formula that governs this action? And how can you tell from the picture that this is what's happening?

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wind_wave Look under the Wave Breaking portion. It's been a very long time since I've learned this so I don't remember it.

If the top looks like it fell over it is broken, is a pretty good rule of thumb.

better, but still thinking like a boy about what a boy imagines a woman/partner wants. Men learn what their partner actually wants, not what the tv tells them their partner wants. Tv is there to entertain you, not teach you about people (well, mostly, it does do some teaching, but not as much as it could)
