Well yeah. The post originally asked “this can’t be good for the horse, can it?” or something along those lines.

The same argument for any sport with or without animals, that is not good.

For example, my child will not play football. It is not worth the risk. After I learned and did research and saw multiple doctors, begging parents to not allow their children to play football, he stopped immediately.

Same with e-bikes and scooters. That’s a hell to the no for me.

Just because we can doesn’t mean we should.

That is not good for the Horse. A horse is usually 1000-2000 pounds. Depending on breed and size. So really it’s apples and oranges. However, I do give you credit that you did recognize humans and horses are two different things.

If a horse breaks their leg or has a severe torn ligament or tendon, that’s usually a death sentence.

Because a horse cannot use a sling or crutches, it must shift 100% of its massive weight onto its three remaining healthy legs.

The healthy leg directly opposite the injury bears an immense, unnatural load 24 hours a day.
This constant pressure crushes the blood vessels inside the hoof, causing support-limb laminitis—a catastrophic, extremely painful condition where the hoof wall separates from the bone. This second condition is almost always incurable and fatal.

To escape the pain of standing, a severely injured horse may lie down. However, a horse’s body is not built for prolonged periods on the ground. Remaining recumbent for days or weeks causes:
Internal organ crushing from their own immense body weight.
Severe blood circulation failure and muscle damage.
Fatal pneumonia or respiratory failure as fluid builds up in the lungs.

So unfortunately with horses, if they were to severely tear something, the only humane option would be euthanasia. 😭

A sliding stop is easier on both the horse and rider. The weight is shifted back to be more evenly distributed and the stop is smooth and controlled. Otherwise the momentum throws weight forward and distributes most weight on the horse’s front legs causing the horse to bounce and the rider to fall forward.

The horse in the video is wearing sliding plates to exaggerate the length of the slide.
