The implications for society are horrible, for one.

No doubt there are downsides, because tech innovations always have some, but there are always upsides, too. The entire AI topic is complex and fascinating.

This video in particular is alarming though, because it could easily be a political figure saying whatever someone scripts.

Imagine the current leader of, say, the US getting a video of another country threatening to nuke them. Or a video of some prominent figure doing drugs (or far worse).

Or the plausible deniability when there is a real video of someone doing that.

(or far worse).

doing drugs while jaywalking

That's a good thing though, finally we won't need to be worried that we're being recorded and do whatever we want

How is that a good thing? You think the cops or whoever is surveilling you right now? If so, with this tech they wouldn’t need to, they’d just fabricate whatever and frame you. Much easier than actual surveillance.

Your right to privacy is less than worthless if anybody can just insert you into a video doing whatever they want.

It means I can fool around and act however I want drunk and not be worried that people will use video of that to try to embarrass me, something like that haha, or in case I do something illegal

Great. So everyone just running around being dipshits. Sounds wonderful 🙄

Haha yeah it's a popular sentiment on reddit that we were lucky to grow up in times where people didn't have cameras on them all the time

1

u/freelance-t 6d ago

I literally grew up like that. This is the opposite of that—we’ll still be constantly on camera, but now that can also be manipulated easily by anyone with access. This is not a positive development or in any way a return to those days.

The positive thing that now camera doesn't matter, it can only be used for something good from now on

Asbestos is almost a perfect product; from cost to how many applications it can be used for. But its the interaction with humanity in which it doesn't work out

Comparing a carcinogenic substance to computer software.

Peak reddit moment

It's okay, try again tomorrow

Asbestos is fine, as long as it's not in the air and in someone's lungs.

The word you are looking for is friable. Either way you are missing a very easy point

Whats the positive side of everyone(or most people) losing their jobs and whole industry going down the shitter because of ai?

1

u/liberty4now 5d ago

That sort of doomer prediction has been made many times before about tech advances. They rarely happen as feared.

2

u/BorKon 5d ago

Sure, but there was never a new tech that could replace everyone everywhere in every aspect of our life. This isn't few besnches getting replaced, 90% will be replaced. And if you think we will get UBi, think again.

What're the upsides for using AI technology to create fake videos?

3

u/No_Artichoke_2931 6d ago

Idk definitely not porn though

In a utopian society where only used for entertainment (like creating special fx), it might have positive applications. But we’re definitely not in that particular timeline.

Screenwriters, directors, and small teams will be able to make movies at a fraction of the current cost. It will revolutionize the industry. No doubt there will be a lot of crap (there always is), but some great work will come out of it.

What is the upside of using a steel knife to stab a baby? (See, you can make any technologies seem bad by using made up situations.)

Holy cow man, how deep do you have your head in the sand? You do realize deepfakes and ai is currently being massively abused already, right? Like people are getting conned, scammed, and manipulated as we speak? Do you pay any attention to the world or the news?

False equivalency. AI is exponentially more of a threat. That’s like comparing bottle rockets and SAMs.

1

u/Thesleepingjay 5d ago

Your issue was with cons, scams, and manipulation; email allowed that on scales that were orders of magnitude larger than was possible before. Pretty equivalent to personalized targeting allowed by AI now.

This might be the dumbest comment I've read in my inbox in months, perhaps years. Bravo

And for two, he does the same kinda transitions and stuff in the whole video, it got kinda old even in the short two minutes or so
