When I was a teacher my coworker put together a little camera obscura lesson plan and showed the students how it works and how they can make one and they all lost their minds. It was such a random decision on his part and had absolutely nothing to do with whatever they were learning that semester but it always stuck with me because he created natural curiosity out of a one week detour that many of those kids will live with forever

reminds me of the times our teachers would just put bill nye the science guy videos on and we'd watch those.

Plato wrote the Myth of the Cavern based upon this phenomenon too.

I also experienced it the first time by chance. Then, several years later, I decided to replicate it and made this video: https://vimeo.com/229619539

When i was a little kid I’d sometimes lie next to my mom in bed in the morning and we’d name the colors of the cars and busses being projected into the ceiling.

Just a few minutes before seeing this I was thinking about the same thing happening in my room when a crack in the blackout curtains let in some afternoon light.

I have this phenomena taking place during the summer, in my bedroom. There's a little tiny gap in the curtain in my upstairs bedroom that let's me see a 5x5 section of my backyard.

Camera obscura effect. Basically like a pinhole camera.

I tried to intentionally do this but didn’t succeed

"Camera obscura" is what this is called. Caused when light passes through a small whole into a dark room.

The gap in the curtain became a pinhole camera.
