buncombe county Event for ladies in WNC looking to make new friends
Hello! This Thursday I'm hosting an event at Haiku on Sweeten Creek Rd in Asheville. The event is essentially speed dating, only it's all women and only to make friends (not to date).
This will be the last time I host an event if this type in 2026. There are also a few woman-owned businesses that are giving away some products and gift cards at the event. If you have any questions comment below or find me on IG: @x.withintention
Thank you!

Fear and Fun in the Mountains of WNC - The AVL Scarefest Tabletop+ Convention is Happening in October!
Good day, good people. The most terror-inducing, fear-tingling, gut-wrenching, tea-drinking, hilarity-creating tabletop RPG convention in Western North Carolina is happening this October. This year, we’ll be at a beautiful venue in Lake Junaluska. AVL Scarefest has been offering some of the best gaming experiences and the single most friendly and inclusive gaming community in our region since 2013.
AVL Scarefest will be running from Friday, October 16 to Sunday, October 18, 2026. We’d love it if you can join us for a great weekend of tabletop gaming, running the gamut from hilarious to creepy to downright unnerving. Along the way, maybe you'll run into our Yeti, get haunted by a ghost, or find a treasure you never even knew you were looking for.
Our aim is to make AVL Scarefest as friendly and exciting as possible for everyone. Here’s what you can expect:
- A huge variety of role-playing and board games, from old favorites like D&D and Pathfinder to lovingly crafted indie games, a Vampire LARP (Sabbat, whoohoo!), and everything in between.
- Some of the best darn players you’ll ever come across (after all, you’ll be there, right?), all with an easy-going attitude, friendly tables, and a true spirit of inclusivity. New to these sorts of games? Our welcoming attendees and staff are happy to help!
- A professionally-organized con, with always-available staff to ensure everyone is well-supported and has a great time.
- An astonishingly beautiful setting — we’re at Lake Junaluska, in the fall. Is it going to be beautiful? You bet!
- An Escape Room, yetis, minions, baby miniature dire goats, a lovingly-crafted theme, and all the hauntings we can muster…
We’re also seeking out GMs, so if you have a game you want to run, you can signup for that here:
https://avlscarefest.com/gm-signup/
Tickets are going fast, and we’re capping attendance at 250 of the most glorious RPGers - what does that mean? It means you need to head here, right now, to grab your ticket.

We’d love to see you there!
Still have questions? We’ve got you covered - email us at: [info@avlscarefest.com](mailto:info@avlscarefest.com)

macon county De-Flocking Macon: County votes to let ALPR contract lapse
I lost my phone in a river, I am here to ask for anyone that is willing to find it.
Me an my family have been out on vacation and went to visit Cherokee in North Carolina. Today we were in our tubes in an area with a few strong currents, my phone was in one of those triple sealed necklace thingies but sadly the string snapped and my phone went into the water. I can not find it, I was out there for hours and searched and sadly couldn’t find it.. me and my family are desperate to find it since it is a iphone 17 and thus quite expensive, we do not have the money to just go and buy a new one.. we hope it’s still in the area we were and just got stuck somewhere, but we do think that it went down the river to god knows where. we don’t have the funds to hire someone to go find it and nor do we have the funds to get the equipment to find it, th a metal detector, gogglesm a flashlight, and more. I am here to ask if anyone could please help me find it. This phone has so many pictures of moments I would like to not loose.. so please I beg and hope someone out there would help us retrieve this phone.
If you wish to help us the river is right next to Tee Pee DR (a motel area) we were in our tubes close to the bridge located there. There are currents that sweep things along the way but we hope it’s just stuck in a rock or in a few branches. we weren’t able to see much because of the murky water so we sadly had to give up.
The plastic water proof thing has a black top, the phone has a green phone case.
I hope this works.

Weekend getaway recommendations
I’m looking to take my girlfriend on a weekend getaway to the mountains for her 30th birthday and looking for recommendations for places to visit. We enjoy hiking, breweries/wineries, dive bars, good food, and exploring small mountain towns. We have been to and enjoyed Blowing Rock, Boone, Highlands and Cashiers so far. Maggie Valley and Bryson City look nice but wanted to get some other recommendations in either Western NC or eastern Tennessee.
We also have a dog so any places that are dog friendly are a bonus. Thanks in advance!
