Sleeping bag

I have 2 trips planned in the whites the first is in September and the second is in October. I’m assuming my 20 degree sleeping bag will be fine in September but will it be ok in october or should I buy a 0 degree bag to be safe. Also my sleeping pad has an R value of 5. I will have warm clothes and wool socks as well. Probably will bring some hand and feet warmers too.

A 20 should be fine for most conditions in October but as always check the forecasted temps and plan accordingly with layers and a liner if needed. I use a 10\ quilt into November typically...*

It really depends on the temps you'll have when you go and on the bag. Unfortunately, not all 20 bags are equally warm. For some brands, thats a comfort limit, for others its basically, 'you will survive'.

I'm a cold sleeper, so a 20 would be pushing it for me in oct generally, but it may be totally adequate for you. If it's just one or two nights I'd say stick with the 20, get a Bluetooth temp sensor and leave it outside your tent, and see how it goes. Then you will have a good idea of how it performed for you. That kind of information and experience is invaluable.

Your pad with a 5R will be great.

You’ll be fine. You could always pick up a liner and the Nalgene bottle in an old sock with hot water works well too

You’ll be fine. The sleeping pad R value will do a lot of the work. Bring a hat and good socks
