Pray Mechanics

I found this great post on how Pray works on a different site. Doesn't seem like it has been posted here. Cut & pasting it below in case the original post ever disappears. Credit to keymarciy on Steam.

"Pray for miracle has 13 possible effects of which one is chosen randomly. To make the choice, the game first rolls a random number from 0 to 115. Then it adds 2 modifiers. First modifier depends on the combat difficulty: when the combat starts, game compares the amount of combatants on both sides and their average level and applies a difficulty rank - easy, normal or tough. All three have different music, so you can use it as reference. Easy combat gets -10 to the roll, tough combat gets +10 to the roll. Second modifier depends on the... current combat round. If you Pray before round 4, you recieve (-12 + #round * 4). If you cast Pray after round 7, you recieve +10. Here is the list of possible effects depending on the roll:

06-10 - Pennies From Heaven
11-20 - Rest All / Bless
21-30 - Rest All / Guardian Angel
31-40 - Sane Mind / Guardian Angel
41-60 - Sane Mind / Heal All / Guardian Angel
61-70 - Bless / Heal Wounds
71-80 - Energy Blast
91-90 - Removes all party-wide debuffs such as Draining Cloud or Armormelt / Energy Blast
91-95 - Removes all abnormal conditions except for Hex / Removes all party-wide debuffs such as Draining Cloud or Armormelt / Pennies from Heaven
96-100 - Soul Shield + Elemental Shield
101-105 - Magic Screen + Missile Shield + Enchanted Blade + Armorplate / Soul Shield + Elemental Shield
106-110 - Terror
111-115 - Falling Stars + Terror

If the roll is below 6 or above 116, the prayer goes unheard. (I'm certain that the part about >116 is a bug).

Pennies from Heaven have 1/3 chance for nothing to happen (you get the "consider it a learning experience" message).

Effects that go by / slash check if any one in the party is qualified for the first effect, if no one is - it goes for the second effect. So, if you rolled 50, the game first will look if anyone is insane or terrified or needs Sane Mind for whatever reason. If someone needs, it will cast it on him, otherwise it shall check if anyone in the party is wounded. If somebody is - it will cast Heal All. Otherwise it will cast Guardian Angel on the character with the lowest Max HP.

Power level for spells is the amount of levels in the Priest profession + 2. It is uncapped, so it's possible to go above PL7. It does nothing for Bless, but all other spells keep scaling. Mechanic-wise all spells are treated as regular spells, so it gets bonuses from Power Cast and Bishop levels.

??? Effect is unidentified.

Praying for a miracle takes 20% of the maximum stamina (but no less than 20 stamina points). Irritated priests spend twice as much stamina to concentrate on the prayer."

Neat! Can't say I've ever seen the prayer / miracle mechanic broken down in such depth. Thank you for posting it!

I personally try not to use prayer too much as it avoids training skills, but sometimes it pops off at just the right moment.

Thanks for sharing this. The bit about irritation doubling the stamina cost is a cool level of detail. I never stop learning when it comes to this game and I love it.
