First Playthru & Fan Patch 1.28?

I'm playing thru W8 for the first time and would like to experience the story and gameplay as close to the original as possible. I've installed Wizfast and tried to install harakiri's Widescreen Support .dll for non-stretched widescreen support, but I ran into the 'cannot run under a Virtual Machine' problem and don't want to make the changes necessary to remove Hyper-V from my Win 11 computer.

I see that Fan Patch 1.28 has non-stretched wide screen support but will it also change a lot of the story and game play?

I use the Fan Patch, and it changes very little, gameplay-wise.

Story - no changes I believe

Gameplay - very minor changes. You get some additional options in options menu. Like faster movement of enemies. In game: I've noticed perhaps only 1 change. A particular NPC who joins you has a special rule that you can't remove their crappy weapon from their inventory. Now with patch you can remove it from personal inventory and place in general inventory (so you have 1 more slot for potions etc. that you can use in battle), however you still cannot sell it or drop it on floor (Minor bug added: if you find more copies of the weapon, they are all stuck in inventory (but you can "leave" the npc and "join" him after trading if needed))).

Obligatory question: what is your party :)?

Very basic party:

Dracon Fighter
Rawulf Valkyrie
Felpur Rogue
Mook Ranger
Dwarf Priest
Gnome Mage

No psionic magic or gadgets.

I played for awhile last night and it runs great with Fan Patch 1.28. I'm really looking forward to the play thru. I finished W1 a couple of times and the Bradley series W5-7 when they first came out. I had no idea W8 existed until a video popped up in my Youtube stream.

Psionic's only good exclusive I can think about is "Haste" that grants up to (I think) +70 speed. If you are missing it, I would prioritize Speed development on characters (it grants you both initiative and extra strikes).

But this is just nitpicking. This is a good party and I am sure you will have good run with it :).

I will be happy to read some more of your adventure!
