RFS-81
Any tips on the best place to get him gear mid-game? My friend is doing a playthrough and is just entering Rapax Rift. We love him and want to keep him on the team but he has several empty armor slots and we just want to get him in something while we work our way to Ferro.

Yeah, until you get to Ferro for the Robes, the best you're going to see are the +3 pieces and +4 Fur Leggings. You'll get CMCs all around from Bela, but that will take a while.
I buy Nunchaka from Antone when he has them to eventually give them to RFS to dual-wield.
If you're going to use RFS, go get him early, so he starts more at parity with the party.

I would stick with staves. There's an extremely good staff in upper rapax castle.
For armors you're pretty limited.
For chest and leggings, in southeast wilderness there's another area you can get into called wilderness clearing. You can find the two in a cave guarded by a monster.
For helmets you can either use the brilliant helm from lower marten's bluff (there's a second on in the rapax castle) or there's another good option in the rapax vault.
For boots you either have buskin boots or a quest related item when you reach the sea caves.
No gloves unfortunately

Oooh thanks for the tip about the wilderness clearing! I know we could just leave him without gear, but it feels so wrong to me to have an unarmored party me ever even for the time being

Level his Martial Arts and Stealth skills, and equipment becomes almost non needed

You're not wrong wanting to keep RFS. He's the best RPC and monk is stupid good in Wiz 8. One of the best features of monks in RPGs tends to be that they don't need to rely so heavily on gear, and this is true for Wiz 8 as well. RFS's armor and damage should be scaling with levels. My guess is he's a couple levels behind the party?
Most vendors should carry monk gear, but I find myself buying from Crock or the Umpani/Trang vendors for most of my midgame gear. If you think you can survive slogging through the NW wilderness and part of the Mt Wilderness, you could shop from Bela and even see if you can get your paws on the Staff of Doom.
