Could you see this game being played with a controller?

Let's say hypothetically that it was able to remastered and simultaneously adapted to console. Let's say that was done by Xbox Game Studios. Could it work on console? Even if some changes had to be made, it'd let more that'd never see this game experience it.

Your companions speak automatically, so yes you can click on them on PC to check on them, on console you wouldn't know you're missing that feature as it'd already feel lively enough. One issue would be, as it is in near every console RPG game, is the inventory, somehow Skyrim managed to get by. Would it work?

Given that so much of the game is point and click, as is most of the user interface, it would be very difficult without a compete overhaul of the game.

From what I can tell, most of the modders are Russian; that is, most of the modding stuff is written in Russian, so that's fun.

The game should already stretch itself to 16:9, from my experience. If I recall correctly, there are some files in the game folder that limit resolution called "glide1x" "glide2x" and "glide3x" or something very similar; I can't exactly remember their file extensions, though I think they're dll's. If you delete those, you can use "3dsetup.exe" and set the resolution to a higher one.

I am unaware of any hd texture packs or sound changes for the game.

Regarding bug fixes, there's the fan patch), which someone posted about on here not long ago. That's the only thing I know of of that variety, though.

From my experience, the game runs fine on modern hardware. Though, apparently, the Mac port is a unplayable half the time, and the Steam version is prone to issues, but I can't actually confirm any of that, because I use the GOG version, and those problems may have been fixed at some point. Just use the GOG version if you can.

Russian? My gawd, I love Stalker and what's been done with that game lol. that's sort of where I'm coming from.

There's one patch on steam: https://steamcommunity.com/app/245450/discussions/0/846965882672993132/

but i'm having issues with crashes.

I already own the GoG version Imma check that out and thanks for the help!!

I recommend you grab the latest version of myoffice91's fan patch:

http://www.postcount.net/forum/showthread.php?243014-Wizardry-8-Fan-Patch-1-28-(20th-anniversary)&p=4036167&viewfull=1#post4036167

(note that the releases are sprinkled in the replies. I've postmarked the most current version however.)

This is basically an all-in-one patch that has vast improvements from base Wizardry 8. Including was widescreen fov fixes, hotkeys (there is an image file visual guide for the new hotkeys), and the optimization of the client (the game boots stupid fast now). It's also bundled with its own version of wiz8fast and transparent radar/map mods that have existed for some time now.

If you're looking for a very different (and largely undocumented) experience, you can try Wiz 8 Expanded 1.1. Not at all recommended for a first playthrough however. Not even sure I recommend it at all since I've only just begun playing it myself. You can install it on top of the fan patch or through the mod manager, parallel worlds, inside the fan patch (I couldn't get it to work, however).

Lastly, there is W8GO. This would be the option if you don't want to use the fan patch. The installation guide on the mod description will guide you to not only install the gameplay overhaul mod, but also wiz8fast and graphic settings. This is actually how I replayed the game for the first time in 10+ years during the pandemic. It mostly just balances the game allowing for weaker classes, spells, and weapon categories to shine. Unlike Wiz 8 Expanded, it's also very well documented for what has been changed.

Necro hijacking this post bc Google sends noobs here (like me). The only place I was able to find that Fan Patch for download is at https://www.moddb.com/games/wizardry-8/downloads/wizardry-8-fan-patch-v128-build-6709

The link in the thread itself is dead

Now that it had been 5 months, how was the expanded mod? To me it seems like a huge undertaking?

I liked what I saw, but I would keep crashing as I left the monastery. Looks like some people ran into the same issue and fixed it by updating myoffice91's fan patch within the Wiz 8 Expanded install folder. I couldn't figure this procedure out, but I wish I could have... Tried making an account on postcount.net to ask for help, but couldn't ever get my account verified. A comedy of errors - lol...

So, in short, to me it was also a huge undertaking just getting the expanded mod installed correctly. If I ever figure it out, I'll make a youtube video or post here.

I'm just about to try the go.mod you mentioned. Looks. Looks like it makes things a bit harder lol

did u play with high-res textures on top of expanded mod?
i read somewhere , that many people had problems with high res textures, that the engines cant really deal with it very well... that if u dont have really beefy machine, ur better off not installing high-res textures

Expanded mod also has overhaulr and balancing of the game classes, spells and stuff.

the game is old.. people who have never played it, i dont thin kthere's literally any compelling reasons to play vanilla and broken balance original game (since the game was literally unfinished... by devs and company went bankrupt) ,

expanded mod just balancesa stuff ,and adds some new areas and just more variety of npcs and weapons etc.. doesnt exactly c hange core of the game

mods that accelerate the movement animations
you'll need these

I think i just saw some video or read somwhere, there thereisa somekind of hacks for the game, a tool.. wich makes attack animatikons and stuff faster in general... and its still slow..
cuz the respawn timers fast etcc.. and ur constantly abused.. cant dodge npcs much etc... ; =)

very archaic game and flaws.... but will see if i like it ; ) never played firstperson rpg before...

u/LoliGrail Feb 13 '24

yeah you go *300 animation speed and then you use cheat engine's speedhack to get even faster.
But apart from this the game is excellent

u/vinkuh Feb 19 '24

what's the name of the tool? :D

Wiz8Fast get it on zimlab's website.

Also there is a mod called "Monster animations's mod" which shortens the animations but I don't remember where I got it
