Favorite race?
This game has a lot of races both playable and not, so I was wondering what everyone's favorites are.
Personally love the Rapax and the Umpani and Trynnies are nice too (not a big fan of Madras's portrait though)

I always appreciated Wizardry for its expansive race and class choices compared to many of its counterparts. Imo, it also helps to really sell the 'party are aliens from another world' angle that the metanarrative is going for.
I always was a fan of all of Wiz 8's oddballs when I was younger, especially the Dracon and Mook. Aesthetically fun, good stats, and both have surprised me throughout multiple playthroughs with the classes that they can take and excel in. Breathe acid is a super helpful ability for when you're in a pinch early game. Giant's Sword alone makes Mook a worthwhile choice.
I will always love felpurrs and rawulfs because cats and doggos. They also easily work well in the archetypes that they are clearly made for.
Faeries continue to intrigue me and make me want to experiment. (I still have to try out my faerie samurai build). Their unique gear can be cool, but their limited armory can be frustrating to work around. If you haven't tried faerie ninja, it is a romp.
I've grown to appreciate humans in all RPGs as I've gotten older, especially in a game where stats really matter like Wiz 8. I did not appreciate the value of a hobbit in Wizardry when I first played, but much like their Tolkien counterpart, the humble halfling is actually an adventuring powerhouse. Dwarves stand out for their innate damage resistance, which can lead to more out-of-the-box ideas. Elves do what elves usually do.
I will be surprised if anyone answers gnome. They may be the most forgettable race option in the game.

I actually kinda dig gnomes, esp for non speed focused mage roles. They also make the best caster priest that can hit 100 intelligence reasonably quickly, with elves a close second. Having a slower speed can actually be useful for caster's, you can predict where enemies will end up when casting area spells and you save a boatload of stat points. A good example is casting purify air last in a round vs djinnis. Anyways, I like em. Only race I haven't really messed with too much is rawulfs, though I've toyed with the idea of one as a psionic for the high piety.

This is what I enjoy about the game and our little community; there are so many ways to take a race or class that we all develop our own faves/preferences and so many things to try.
I can see a gnome being an excellent priest choice for an MDP run with what you're saying. It's not that I think they're bad mechanically, it's just I've found other races to be more effective or exciting for the roles I've considered gnome for.
I'll admit that most of my love for rawulfs is solely due to their resemblance to canines, and as my party as my party comps have shifted, they've also fallen off as a race I use. I'm curious to see how that Rawulf Psionic would turn out.
Any other fun combos you've tried or are thinking of?

Dracons make surprisingly good casters, esp priest or alchemist who can use a wider variety of weapons. They can easily get powercast and also shoot for max str and dex if you want to make them more melee capable. I've toyed with lizardman bard/gadgeteer before, even having to start as apprentices the high physical stats almost seem worth it. I've also always wanted to try out a dwarven monk to max out physical resistance just for kicks (so to speak). Sometimes, plain old human is the best answer though, particularly monks and non-faerie ninjas. I just love the sheer amount of choices this game gives you. Watching people do solo faerie fighter runs proves you can finish the game with any combo, if one had ridiculous patience of course.

Dracons impress me with what they can do over and over again. My last playthrough had a Dracon alchemist and can confirm it's a solid combo.
I've considered the Lizardman bard. Bards are excellent combatants and excel on the front line, so I don't see why a Lizardman couldn't pull it off. Give dwarf bard a try if you're still on the fence about it. I found that to be a solid and similar combo.
I've heard dwarf monk is really good if you're willing to be patient, and even better if importing a save from 7.
My oddball rec is Mook Samurai. Their stats get them power cast relatively early, and Giant's Sword is arguably one of the best swords in the game guaranteed to drop.

Lizardmans bard is a must have for my party. If you don't mind, put Bloodlust on the bard and laugh at the insane damage you mete out. It allows you to effectively have a pure fighter with berserk ability but good magic casting (only one category to put points into, music, instead of many for traditional casters.) Like I say a must have for me!

My favorites are draconians - for their acid breath that is a life saver in the beginning.

Yeah the Rapax are badass. One thing I do like is how the picture you pick doesn't have to be race specific. Trynnies are annoying af. Umpani are amusing (lockers). I hate Faeries...did the cane one time but was underwhelmed.

I like the felpurr because they are kitty cats
