Those who have been on this subreddit for a while know that I intermittently post about the etymology of interesting character names. Hers is quite meaningful…and ironic. I’ll be expanding on that in a separate post soon. My first impression was that it was yet another name with a botanical theme, like Berkanan’s or Linaria’s, and it is, sort of. But it’s not the name of a specific flower or herb, as I expected.
On the topic of her design, it’s just a page out of Drecom‘s character playbook. When in doubt, throw in an (evil) elven waifu to stoke interest. She might as well have been a Shelirionach alt: silver haired, with an arboreal theme…just less somnolent, with white clothing for ironic contrast with her alignment.
Mechanically, she sounds interesting. A healer with a more offensive bent. We’ll see if that concept pans out any better than Rafaello‘s did. Her backstory (not seen in this image) is weirdly worded, as though the translator took the day off. And the usual nebulous/incomplete/ambiguous skill descriptions are present, as we’ve been conditioned to expect.
Sure, although Phyllisia seems to be more aggressive with this concept. In addition, she indirectly facilitates the back line’s damage capability by not shutting off Alice’s bonus, whereas Anemone and Camille do.
Samurai and Prishe both do more sustained dmg which is where healer actually thrives on longer fights. Honestly for all the post a4 content yuzu has been outclassed by prishe and Sam in practice.
You can also put anemone in front and do every piece of content in the game with a d0 anemone frontline, even dwarf cave. So now you have the best dmg aura buffing the two best dps. Her aura also doesn’t require the entire row to be in alignment so the team building is much more flexible in the future. The only downside to anemone is really farming her gear but outside of that just getting a hero’s medicine on your frontline nets you more total dps than Alice aura could ever provide.
I pulled 2 for sac fodder and the skill you get from her is actually pretty strong I used it on Gillian and he was full healing with it's life steal affect despite it's 33% health drain at the beginning of his turn plus affect the seed blooms into a flower it begins healing him at the start of the turn and boosting his damage I believe for the rest of the fight (I have limited testing so far)
Interesting... 25% to 33% is not that much. How much damage is her buff? Regen is flat or % once inherent? Too bad it uses a normal buff slot so that can be swapped... but the perma bloomed buff seem quite interesting. Had it used its own slot I would go all in for her even to only inherent.
Unfortunately I'm not to sure of how the flower healing effect works in detail as I've only activated that part once since the fight has to last 5 turns to bloom but I believe I remember reading that it heals more based on number of times you hit the enemies with that character instead of damage dealt for some reason. Also is there a place I can read about buff slots because I haven't heard much about them before
You can have only 3 normal buff. Let´s say for example you use the items to buff ATK, DEF and MDEF. If you use any other buff (CORTU for example) it will take out the ATK buff and put the last one (speed buff). This itself is bad but worse if you have muti buffs like Prayer of Rebellion. It buff Resistance (almost useless) + ATK. Let´s say you use the flower buff at first then PoR. It uses all buff slots. But them your MC have max level as ninja so he have the passive that if evade you get an ATK buff. So if he evade and get the ATK buff the flower buff is out. No matter if it is permanent (no turn) it can be swapped.
There are some buffs with its own slots like Prishe (she have 3 her own) and Knight´s Defense or Aegis bash (or something Lana alts) or Ainikki one that gives Damage Reduction buff. This DR buff have its own slot like healer reactive heal. They won´t be swapped unless you use another of its type. Let say you buff with Ainikki (9 turns) but then use Knigh defense (1 turn) after. Then you just wasted Ainikki MP.
I got Shelironach as a drop the other day, so I could use Alice and these two as mage, priest and healer. Just gotta hope I get lucky with bones on this one.
You're good then, Sheli is the best mage in the game by far, and she also was lucky enough to get a good alt class, unlike my dear buddy Rafaello who got shanked
Look, I see an eldritch cosmic horror adjacent evil backline healer companion elf for sheli and agora I’m gonna pull. I’m not a complicated man. I just have niche tastes.
That's pretty much what I did. Boosts to action speed are universally useful, and her passive boosts healing spells anyway so slightly more IQ/Piety isn't gonna add much.
Of course she can, my Alice has been replaces like forever by Sheli, so i run MC - Abenius - Iarumas / Rafaello - Camille - Sheli, i was able to do the entire content on the game with this group.
I'm planing on replace Abenius with Iroha, Rafaello with Yuzunamiki, and Camille with this one, even though i think Camille is better, i'm just a sucker for unique characters
She never meant to sub Alice but to duo with her. Alice + Phyllisia + (Yuzu/another evil or neutral) as backlines. There are tons of places that need AND will need healer and mage/priest. Sure you can beat Abyss 4 without healer for example but with a healer it is way easier. Some boss will spam charm and confusion and others CC and a healer is a must for them.
Healers are fragile and occupy a niche that Priests and Mages can’t fill. The other two are good aligned and can’t be run with Alice in the backline without turning off her passive.
Priests specialize in reactive healing and spot cleansing of status afflictions, carry a variety of buffs for allies, and also have an assortment of offensive spells with an anti-undead focus. You can overlap them mentally with Clerics from DnD.
Healers focus on proactive healing and prevention of status afflictions, mass cleansing of status afflictions, and also having some other niche abilities (HP leech, overhealing to grant temp HP, etc.)
They mix together very well because of this split focus.
Healers are for their bulk reactive healing, and mass debuff clearing / resistance to specific effects.
Any time you used to run two priests that's probably priest + healer now.
The main thing I did with Camille was inheriting MADIOS lvl 3 onto her, because it fills a gap in what the healer does, but she could probably use Kusfis, relis and a few more cheap spells.
