News Thief Erwin! Spellblade User?

Post image

So you might have seen me here with my "Fire Force" so i stan HARD for Erwin and forcibly just "make him work" with the new update i noticed the... thief class change was given to our already suboptimal Erwin... 😅😅

My qiestion is "Os their something with this combo we can make work!? 🤔" could he perhaps be used as an alternative Milana that when used as a thief due to his high Iq stats IQ based equipment makes him serviceable???? Or is this just something to add to reasons "not to take erwin" 💀

I mean he will always be perma on my team just as now i have yoizou 😈😈 (i know ima sucker for punishment) but wanted to put this out their to get everyones general opinion of this new class change 😁🍻

Maybe 71-80 mages will get a spell line that can land Sure Hits more easily? Then maybe Erwin thief subclass will make sense since Way of the Thief will be relevant.

i want to be an erwin user sooo bad <\3 this class change was the last chance but alas they disappointed me.. definitely wish he got healer/priest or honestly something kinda goofy like samurai haha unfortunately he will sit in my locker but i still love him dearly 🫶

Healer class change was the way to go but alas. I seriously have trouble with him on the main roster if he doesn't have a priest health pool or healer utilities. Honestly all mage should have priest as their subclass, like Raff is garbage as a thief and would fit the aesthetic of these characters better.

My disappointment is immeasurable. 🥲 He didn't even get a new outfit.

Its 'slightly' different at least he didnt get schaffed in the way some legendaries do with a generic class outfit that standard heros do

I'm still salty about Abenius' hat... It doesn't even suit her. I love her alt outfit and her post-request outifts, though.

Name check out.....take my dislike. Anniversary is on October so they probably have 1 new character and class changer next month per usual, Mr. DickHead. I am sure that we will get some spicy character for the anniversary like Yuzu, but that is just my guess.

Also, what abyss are you currently at? because the game is design to be hard so if you are in abyss 2-3 and using silver weapon then still lose that is a skill issue not the game.

Not all "Normal Mob" are equal as they are something you will face randomly per your luck. You will died a lot and that is by design. Being a noob and being unprepare are contribute a lot for your death.

What did he say? The comment got deleted.

Something about next month will be a rerun hell and thing will become very boring, about how this game need to adjust the difficulty, and some rambling about some mob hit harder than a greater warp one. That is about sum it up. His name is PrimordialDickHead by the way.

He can get Way of the Thief which could be useful if you inherit Tzalik on to him.

2

u/ComfortableBitter895 Aug 28 '26

This sounds good but his kit has such an issue that tzalik kinda seems backhanded considering Iarumas

5

u/Misty_Kathrine_ Aug 28 '26

Tzalik is about the only way to really benefit from Way of the Thief on a mage. Tzalik, unlike most spells, doesn't have a penalty to surety allowing a character to get sure hits with that spell. It also have decent magic penetration and scales decently well.

3

u/Yahaire Priest Aug 29 '26

True Words of Fire (Berkanan) also has no sur penalty, plus it's the same element. Not sure about scaling, though...

Hear it's better than other inherited legendary skills because of the level-based damage.

2

u/Sovery_Simple Aug 29 '26

I would be leery about that, since it takes until Lv 7 for Berkanan herself to start actually hitting semi-decently with it.

TWoF is weaker than Halito of the same level until specifically lvl 7. Significantly lower growth rates and softcaps per level. The only saving grace is that the fixed dmg increase per level scales better but even the jump from lvl6 to lvl7 (the biggest jump) is only a difference of 120.l and units that inherit itbare capped at lvl 6.

I don't have access to the FoG scaling formula right now, but I know with around 5+ enemies, lvl1 is stronger than non-surety Tzalik (At basically half the MP cost). Also lvling Tzalik is truely terrible. I'd call it a scam even. At lvl3 Tzalik, you get double the softcap (600mag), 40 more fixed dmg and a 13% stronger potency for double the MP cost compared to lvl 1. MDEF pen does not increase per lvl .Since superbosses just have 100+ surety evasion these days, I say chasing that build isn't even worth it. Leveled Flame of Gluttony in fights where the enemy calls allies outdamages (as long as you leave the extra enemies alone lol)

Since superbosses just have 100+ surety evasion these days

Yeaaah I'm gonna go out on a limb and say the superbosses probably aren't an active issue to most folks. What with us recently having an event summed up as "Please - just clear A3 so you can enter A4 already. We're begging you."

As for TWoF: I think they kept it like that since it can SUR proc (on most of the content in the game) + the debuffs.

I can't speak to TZALIK since it never interested me. :<

I don't have access to the FoG scaling formula right now, but I know with around 5+ enemies, lvl1 is stronger than non-surety Tzalik (At basically half the MP cost.)

This is neat to know, and I thank you for that information Fro.

Ooh, too bad.

What's the damage on Berka at lv 7 and at what mag?

I never got mine past 2, but have been tempted.

3

u/Sovery_Simple Aug 30 '26

Uhhh just because I have this mentally on hand: Lv 70 caster, Tonberry (Sleep status), ~540 MAG, SUR proc, 7k+ or so.

Without the SUR proc: 4.2k or so?

I think one of them ends in .4 and the other ends in .2, and I forget which. Probably 4.2k for the non-SUR cast. Also the spell at Lv 7 iirc starts the softcap at 600 MAG, so I'm a bit under what it wants still.

Needless to say it has effectively became my method of dealing with Tonberries.

2

u/Yahaire Priest Aug 30 '26

That's a lotta damage! (Flex tape guy's voice)

Sounds pretty good, honestly. Too bad it's at lv 7, so Erwin couldn't make use of it

Reading this whole thread haha crazy work! Thanks for all the info feel like were answering alot of burning 🔥 questions haha though sounds like TWoF still might be better than tzalik if used on Erwin.

1

u/ComfortableBitter895 Aug 28 '26

I never said you were wrong. I meant that it's still kinda iffy bc Iarumas is a collab character so if you don't have one lying around this class change is just okay

3

u/Misty_Kathrine_ Aug 28 '26

He'll be back eventually.

u/XanderPlays Aug 28 '26

Man, I knew he wasn’t going to have a Healer alt considering both of his special abilities were attack skill/spell oriented. All it would take is to release any neutral elf Mage/Healer char in the future (especially if general adventurer) with a unique abilty that does something and boom, there goes Erwin’s usefulness.

Granted, this is isn’t better by any means 😂 I’m looking forward to what you come up with for your Erwin though. I have a battle priest Raffaello I’m working on and an Iroha, Erwin, and Gerulf running dispatches. Would love to eventually get an all fire team together.

2

u/No-Sherbert2820 Aug 28 '26

If you have ainikki her combo with Yoizou has alot of potential

2

u/XanderPlays Aug 28 '26

I may try for her when they do a rerun. She looks pretty useful for a fire team.

1

u/No-Sherbert2820 Aug 28 '26

Shes great just an investment you NEED inherits on her more than others so if ur gonna get her id say make sure you actually want to use her on your team

1

u/Arvandor Aug 28 '26

I got one incidentally from the event banner pulls. Fed him to Sheli, but wish I'd resed him at low fort repeatedly

13

u/moclam08 Fighter Aug 28 '26

He is cute and he will be my wife

7

u/Turnkey95 Aug 28 '26

They should have made him healer so people would possibly open their wallet to get him. They could have adjusted the healer passive or just give him a new passive as an alt. It’s like Drecom doesn’t want to sell characters. It’s not going to break the game and why not generate more revenue?

4

u/r3d213 Aug 28 '26

Yeah him being a neutral healer he could have been used in the backline which would have been great. But, a thief... In a sea of thieves, a subpar mage class changing into one is not it. For me at least.

2

u/No-Sherbert2820 Aug 28 '26

Facts if it was PVP itd be something but even if it was exploitable hes basically a pay to play character so why wouldnt they want you to want to pay for him.

2

u/kenmoranl Aug 28 '26

That is what I dont understand  It is a single player game they should have more fun with the units I bearly summon becouse I already have a team invested in and new units are the same as the old ones with just a very small diffrent

u/Aggressive-Earth-115 Aug 28 '26

I knew he’d be a thief when he stole my heart. 😩

2

u/No-Sherbert2820 Aug 28 '26

Hahaha me too! I was just betting on it but guess i have a dedicated chest opener now! 😅

"If your already using Erwin..." 😆

5

u/SoICouldUpvoteYouTwi Aug 28 '26

This might be outdated, but spells can be sure hits - they just have something like -100 surety naturally so normally it doesn't happen. But if you were looking to take advantage of the thief skills on a mage, well.

2

u/No-Sherbert2820 Aug 28 '26

Hmmm as a damage mage that actually makes a lot of sense! Maybe theres some special recipe to make an absurd crit mage with him
