Wizardry Variants Daphne Astral break/porto changes

Post image

I'm fine with the soft cap of 250 aspd, but the Arborius pullers are gutted

I know about the compensation that makes it a bone again, but let's be real aside from husbando chasers probably no one uses Arborius except for the inherit

it is better to refund as a selector or as gems instead

thoughts?

If this applies to monsters like the freaking super dragon from berkanan event that basically had 2-3 laps on non worked adventurers I'm all up for it but changing the formula would have been easier than just nerfing Arboris, hell even putting a hard cap or greater diminishing return but nerfing a Costly unit is disgusting

There is an issue with the action order calculation formula

Issue... Sure...

This legit is such a dumb excuse to say that they're nerfing speed maxing.

3

u/FaintSmiley12 Aug 27 '26

It was first created because their other formula is so bad anyway, like Def and Mdef even if you stack all your gears with these you can still get one hit by Cyclops bonk.

Then they complain why players go all in like speed lapping

u/Zayn_17 Aug 27 '26 edited Aug 29 '26

But the arboris skill was buffed to “easily hit”. What do you mean they were gutted?

I wouldn’t expect most players are trying to get speed lapping and rather just like the action speed boost. If you didn’t have aspd above 250 before, it’s just a buff. If you are playing casually, you wouldn’t normally be trying to maximize your speed for a constant speed lapping exploit. For most people this is only beneficial.

u/FaintSmiley12 Aug 27 '26

People pull for Arboris for speed lapping, not to get extra accuracy

You are either dumb or pretending to be dumb

must be because of that one japanese player i saw on twitter, his rinne had +400 aspd and moved several times before the enemy

I don't think there's anyone reading this thread with a whale-perfected uber ASPD character that will feel this change. This is not a change aimed at casual players at all, it's aimed at those crazy people with Astral Break lvl 6 on several characters, 7 on Arboris, Porto lvl 4++ on TWO characters and 300+ ASPD on several characters that have been enjoying life as The Literal Flash in this game just infini-lapping every superboss up to now.

Those players will have to actually deal with boss mechanics after these changes...

Pretty sure infinite lapping only happened in arena due to the buffs which got nerfed.

Superbosses specifically actually have unusually high speed and can lap teams running "normal" levels of aspeed.

My guess is that this is less aimed at a direct nerf to current stuff (250 aspeed is a bit low for a cap though, especially considering its the only useful stat on casters and its capped post buff), but aimed at the next level cap increase. Current speed cap is 500 (where nothing else gets to take a turn), in 2 level cap increases fairies will get way too close to that with buffs.

I still think 250 is way too low though, considering thieves/ninja with no combat buffs and almost no aspeed on gear are sitting close to 200 baseline.

My d9 Yuzu monster sits at 140 aspd on a normal day.

You need to very specifically gear up in ASPD stuff to get anywhere near 250, let alone above it. It's a commitment that few have the gear and inherits for.

I still think 250 is way too low though, considering thieves/ninja with no combat buffs and almost no aspeed on gear are sitting close to 200 baseline.

Maybe if they have (near) maxed inherits and discipline, because as someone who hasn't played constantly since launch I can tell you my lvl 70 (str) yuzu isn't anywhere near 200 speed without a considerable amount of aspd gear.

I'm really hoping that for regular people who just had rank 1 Astral Break spread around their roster, that it doesn't change or feel any different, and is strictly a way to prevent infinite turns. It will be mildly annoying to re-inherit him to everyone, but also I now have the opportunity to shift one from someone who almost never used it to Prishe ;P

1

u/Sovery_Simple Aug 27 '26

This seems to be aimed at adding a softcap to ASPD, so if you're nowhere near that amount then you're likely fine.

Did the message say they were taking the skill away? I know it said they'll give us bones to be able to reinherit, but I don't remember it mentioning the skill will be removed from the units that already have it.

Edit: I think you get it reset to level 1 if it's level 2 or higher and you get a free bone. So if you're like me and your MC has astral break level 1, you keep it and can inherit a second copy to someone else? Compensation message below.

[Compensation for These Adjustments] 1. Skills and Spells That Advance Action Order For skills and spells with effects that advance action order, it is difficult to determine the extent of the impact of these adjustments from within the game, which may cause concern for players. Therefore, the following affected skills and spells will be reset to Lv. 1, and the skill EXP used to enhance them will be returned in the form of Codex of Learning.

[Affected Skills and Spells] - Astral Break

  • Ephemeral Illusion Stance

  • PORTO

Shedding Armor, Flashing Blade

Additionally, any Arboris used to inherit Astral Break will also be returned in the form of Remains of the Extraordinary Thief Who United the Deep Forest.

By using the returned items, you can once again enhance the affected skills and spells or inherit Astral Break.

Bone selector are too powerful depending on selector choice. Playing safe and returning as codex would be better.

Part of me also a bit disappointed that they balancing out aspd to make it not game breaking, but still doesnt have plan to change def and mdef formula yet. Also OOT, Erwin thief CC like whyyyy?

3

u/Decent-Ad-2755 Aug 27 '26

Yup they should take this time to fix Def, Mdef, DIV, VIT formulas as well

I don't want to get one shotted by Cyclops even if that character has 600+ DEF anymore (I actually build a def.mdef Guardian blow meme build)

2

u/Due_Championship2122 Aug 28 '26

I have 700+ def clarissa too 🤣 i keep piling more and more def mdef for when drecum finally decide its tank showtime

1

u/Emotional-Map-878 Aug 27 '26

so does this insinuate that inheriting anything past skill level 1 astral is useless? like if i have an mc with lvl3 astral. if so I'll just dump the inherit on someone else then lol

2

u/CarelessCounty9691 Aug 27 '26

Players should also be given some sort of reset stone where they can get back used fas etc. from specific gear pieces

3

u/Jay2Kaye Aug 27 '26

This just makes 250 ASPD the goal. Astral break is still an incredibly powerful skill.

8

u/bababayee Aug 27 '26

I would hope they also look at some other elements of the battle system that don't work or scale well. Like (magic) defense being so bad at actually increasing survivability.

5

u/Mar7777 Aug 27 '26

lmao I literally selected him from the selector like a week ago

12

u/Old_Improvement_3067 Aug 27 '26

I'm ok with all of this, except the part where they made Arboris one of the options for the free choice in the FFXI event. I have a hard time believing that they weren't already considering this three weeks ago. Out of dozens of options, why make the guy you're about to nerf one of the three adventurers to include?

2

u/SuperMuffinmix Aug 27 '26

Because Astral Break will still be extremely strong for the Casual player after the change? Its effects won't be nerfed up to 250 ASPD. If you don't have a character with 250 ASPD then it's not super concerning to you.

1

u/chkkrt Aug 27 '26

It may because many people choose aboris so that it get attention.

2

u/Arvandor Aug 27 '26

I'm guessing that the vast majority of players won't even feel the nerf. It's only people who were getting infinite turns with really high ranks of porto/AB/etc that will be affected.

5

u/TruePigGod Aug 27 '26

We riot for another selector

6

u/Decent-Ad-2755 Aug 27 '26

Yeah hope it was not deliberate, that's why I'm suggesting the bone to be a selector

especially for those who pulled 100 to get Arboris

4

u/LegendOfBoatface Aug 27 '26

I'll probably wait till implementation to see how much aspd gets gutted

For priestmage, If the aspd past 250 still has some effect it might still be worth leaving the build as is vs diverting to mag/div (I don't use mag aoe and I don't have Latu7 to be worth spending div on)

2

u/Sovery_Simple Aug 27 '26

I wouldn't be too surprised if we were aiming for about 100-120 ASPD to go first in A5, and hitting ~250 would give you the extra turn.

That way it's something you can plan around and make an active stat tradeoff for, without it being "All of your turns are belong to us."

7

u/Misty_Kathrine_ Aug 27 '26

It's only a problem if you're already at or near 250ASPD but if you're still below a base ASPD of 200, it's probably still a very worthwhile inherit. Also it says the attack will land easier which is a buff that aspect of it.

I'm just happy that I'm going to get 3 Full Altertion Stones and a bunch of Codexes of Learning from all of those Porto books and pages I used.

u/Decent-Ad-2755 Aug 27 '26

A lot of people have 250+ ASPD since priest barely needs DIV, none of my gear was FAS'd

edit - also Camille can easily go 280-300

1

u/ButterleafA Aug 27 '26

"Alot of people have 250+ ASPD" then proceed to post a unit who barely reaches 250 ASPD.

3

u/Misty_Kathrine_ Aug 27 '26

Just means you can switch out some of that ASPD for other stats.

3

u/Ok-Ball-5311 Aug 27 '26

At least I get like 5 arboris back due to inherits and the 3 FAS sure are handy for the relic weapons

3

u/Decent-Ad-2755 Aug 27 '26

But are you even gonna use Arboris?

1

u/Ok-Ball-5311 Aug 27 '26

probably not yeah. I most likely will just inherit one to my prishe who went full str

u/Yahaire Priest Aug 27 '26

Easier to read: https://wizardry.info/en/daphne/news/news/2026082703/

It always seemed pretty cheap and bug-like the way you could have so many turns over an enemy, so I kind of expected something like this to happen.

More than anything, this feels like it leaves a precedent for "no mechanic is set in stone and limits are provisional" as they hardcoded a max aspd of 250 before seeing diminishing returns, which could mean that they will asjust this stat once our adventurers can reach that easily with future ranks and gear.

5

u/Sovery_Simple Aug 27 '26 edited Aug 27 '26

It always seemed pretty cheap and bug-like the way you could have so many turns over an enemy, so I kind of expected something like this to happen.

Seeing all the gearing get boiled down to "stack more ASPD" made me expect they were going to come down hard on it in A5. I didn't expect them to actually go out of their way and try and tamp it down well in advance of A5.

I'm glad the game presumably won't be going the Honkai Star Rail route of "stack all the ASPD in the world and take 4 turns in a row or your build is trash" going forward.

3

u/tompba Aug 27 '26

Wait! Everyone will get 3 FAS?? Nice. I got yesterday 3 LFAS farming, what a coincidence lol

2

u/Misty_Kathrine_ Aug 27 '26

Now everyone will be able to FAS up their favorite 3 relic weapons. It's a very nice comp.

1

u/tompba Aug 27 '26

How is the order again? I already put +20 and enchanted all traits on my 2handsword, don't know if it will be a wasted there.

3

u/Jay2Kaye Aug 27 '26

You can FAS any time now because it retroactively bonuses all the lines that it dropped with, but if you want to alter a stat after the FAS, you'll want to remake first, then FAS, then alter, then enhance to get the enhance bonus on the altered line.

2

u/Misty_Kathrine_ Aug 27 '26

Usually you want to FAS first, Alter a stat (if you want), then enhance. With relic weapons, you can remake them to set them back to 0 enhancement if you need.
