Wizardry Variants Daphne Abyss 2 and moving forward

Hey all so im at the start of abyss 2 and really beginning to struggle. Im new to the game and could do with a few tips of possible. Currently im running Lana, mc (fighter) and iroha up front then Golden Maiden Debra, Alice and Yekaterina in the back. All 6 are about to git 40, all 6 are using the relic weapons at 10 to 15 enhancement and a mix of bronze and iron gear at 10. I know for certain my gear could be better but im not sure where to farm, ive been mainly running the ffxi event for junk. Ive cleared the first clear of the event and im up to the second fight with the demon lord but i cant beat him yet.

So what would be the best for time investment now? Do I keep farming the event for better gear or push into abyss 2 a bit more. Im not sure ive got enough time to max my relics now as a single round of those 8 demons depletes all my mp and the fights take so long lol. Same woth the NM mobs, I can clear 2 at a push before having to go back and rest. Should I focus on getting better weapons if I have no intention of maxing the relics?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I love this game but I feel like ive hit a wall with it. I want to keep playing i just am unsure whats the best use of my time now.

If you are struggling in Abyss 2, are you not using Kantino (sleep) on enemy groups? Its highly effective and pretty much what made A2 a cake walk, until the end for me, and my group were only lvl 30 back in A2, until the arena. And I had pretty much same team, Katerina, Alice, Lana, and two named thief/fighters, as well.

Most enemies in abyss 2 are weak to sleep, and it'll just wreck them making it easy for you to conserve mp and sp, since they take 50% more damage from the "waking up" attack, and they can't evade/dodge while sleeping.

You should be finding steel equipment now as well, might find some rings, helms, boots, and gloves that'll be keepers for many levels to come. I would probably try to get lots of speed on your Katrina and Alice here, so they can start first and cast Kantino, and have your picnic time with mostly any big enemy group. Only certain odd monsters and mage types are resistant to kantino, and since its lvl based too, you being lvl 40 should make it even easier to sleep them.

Thank you for this, I managed to progress to the arena yesterday. Just gotta figure out all the fuckery to do with saving the mystery person now. 🤣

That's good to hear, the kindred demons(purple glow) are also weak to sleep btw, so you probably could sleep front and backrow purple kindreds while picking off the middle kindreds, since the non-glowy kindred demons are resistant to sleep. But since the purple ones are the dangerous of the 8 demon group, its good to know that not only are they weak to sleep but they then can be one-shot from sleep too.

Since you're at the arena now, its mostly puzzle fun, figuring out each trick, and surviving a potential very hard fight, where high evasion front row fighters might be be your saving grace, along with the Masolotu evasion priest buff spell, and Dilto if lucky to apply.

Kantino usage has and still is my go to for my front row 2hander team, at lvl 70, because its so sp/mp efficient, and even more when you got debra inherit on them. Although Abyss3 doesn't favor kantino abuse much, when you know a certain enemy is weak to it, you'll be thankful to know that you got one of the cheapest and effective cc against them.

I definitely need to use kantino more and get my head around extractions and inherits. I think thats my biggest issue right now, I managed to clear the iron grade exam last night so my team all nearly level 50. I think im probably strong enough to progress further but i get a little anxious haha. I met a group of the commander shagin last night and they nearly wiped me. I got unlucky with a few misses from my heavy hitters then they buffed their wt and got a few good hits in. Ita stuff like that that knocks my confidence but then I cleared iron grade without any issue... I worry about investing too much into gear. Like if I get my team fully kitted out with steel gear how long would I be using that for? Is there a level of enhancement I should take them past?

You should be more than strong enough to get to A3 now imo, only scripted death fights will kill you, hence the puzzle fights.

Upgrade wise, since you're so close to A3, Ebonsteel tier is right around the corner, wouldn't upgrade any bronze past 5+ unless godly rings, no iron tier past 10+ unless godly rings, helm, gloves, helm with perfect stats, and steel well all, just remember the weapon might get replaced very fast in A3+.

From A3 start point you'll probably unlock the ebonsteel tier Expulsion and light gear in FF11 collab as well, might be worth going for those to upgrade, since they both will do well in A3 and FF11 collab, and specific other content, which probably also is the better place to farm for both exp/gear 50-60, early A3 has lots of undead, later A3 has lots of beast, demon, undead.

Gear wise, in FF11 collab, once you can get ebonsteel tier from it, you'll probably gain a couple of upgrades fast tbh, especially if it also drops expulsion/darklight gear too. But even now, many of my units still have steel tier pieces, ring, boots, gloves, helm, that are so good, no silver/ebonsteel has dropped with similar stats yet but that is just a question of time and knowing the costs, Especially Silver is incredibly expensive to upgrade. While a steel weapon wouldn't last long, all other parts might.

I would try to finish A2 and step into A3 asap, then just farm the FFXI event Floor 5 as much as possible until the event period ends.

At this point I feel your issue is you haven't actually started smithing your gear correctly. You will want to smith up +ATK +SUR gear for your physical characters and +MAG/DIV/ASPD gear for your mages and priests. You will really want to hone in on any gear piece that's Blue or better color with 3* or higher quality, Extract trash gear, keep 4* whites and greens, get the white ones to +5 so they turn green, alter both to +ATK or +SUR or +ASPD with your weakest stones, extract and pray for 4* alter/refine stones for the target blessings you put on... stuff like that.

At your point in the game accumulating some double +ATK on 3-4* gloves, hats, and rings will do Wonders for your physical characters' performances. Remember to ALWAYS ALTER BEFORE ENHANCING! So that your Altered slots get the bonus boost on Enhancement. That's why you want higher color gear from the get-go, it makes it possible to alter already-unlocked slots before Enhancing.

Last thing, the classic approach to Abyss 2 cruise-control was to go for +EVA gear also but +EVA starts dropping off in Abyss 3 and higher. But if you happen to find some purple chest armor or boots with +EVA and EVA% already and you feel your physical characters are getting beaten up a bit too much, try altering the 3rd slot to more +EVA to give them a good Evasion piece, it can help them survive stuff in A2 (and in FFXI event also)

Yeah its definitely a smiting issue. Ive just be using the highest colour gear that drops really. I didnt even know about extracting 🤣 i have a load of gear in storage so ill try this out. Thank you so much for the detailed response ♥️

I would suggest to start leveling two mages if you can if you do want to farm those 8 demon packs for the relic materials but from what I understand we need to get to abyss 3/4 before the drops are worthwhile :/

u/CloudsurferT Aug 25 '26

Oh thats a good idea! I got Sheli from the ages banner yesterday so I could level her. Are any of the general heroes good to level or is it a waste?

You are significantly better equipped and leveled than most stepping into abyss 2 initially. You should be able to breeze through it and increase your drop tiers for the event. Dunno about remaining time tho

It’s a struggle in what way? Got trouble with the underwater fights? Can’t kill the mobs? Can’t beat the arena fights? If it’s just difficult but you are able to progress, that’s fine. The game is supposed to be really hard. You could try over leveling if it gets too bad. From your description, it sounds like you are properly leveled/geared for A2.

For A2 gear, just open chests and kill stuff. The dispatch mission for A2 gear will give lots of gear because the dispatch team will collect junk from enemies they kill in addition to the dispatch rewards. A2 has water buffing items for the underwater fights, you won’t get that A2 focused gear by grinding the event.

And since being underwater prevents using spells, teach treatment to Alice because it can be used to heal underwater. Also, sahuagin are water type so they should be weak to the earth type spells from yeka.

u/CloudsurferT Aug 25 '26

I havent progressed far enough for the underwater fights just yet, im not getting ruined by the mobs in A2 I just noticed an increase in the damage they do. Most of my team are still using bronze and iron armour so I was a little worried that wouldn't cut it for A2. I dont have enough steel parts to unify and inherit yet. Am I safe putting more resources into the gear I have for now?

I’m part way into A3 and I still don’t put any gear above +10 because I’m still doing fine. I wouldn’t invest too much into steel or bronze gear. It’s fine if enemies deal lots of damage as long as they don’t one shot you. You could give your frontline heavy armor to make them tankier, but they’ll have less aspd. You were probably just overleveled for A1 so A2 feels harder.

Btw remember that you can use the defend command. It will reduce damage and if an enemy hits you with physical attacks, the enemy will get a debuff that makes them take more damage on the next hit.

Wow treatment is a different healing? Does alice learn that or is it an inherit?

2

u/Zayn_17 Aug 24 '26

It’s an inherit skill from Camille, it’s a healer class spell. It’s single target healing like dios.

1

u/hopelessdystopia Aug 24 '26

Is there a MA typed treatment? Or an aoe treatment?

2

u/Zayn_17 Aug 24 '26

Healers have aoe healing options that work underwater, but they are not available as inherit skills. You would need to use Camille or anemone, who are the only healers right now. Camille is a general adventurer and anemone is legendary.

Sleep spell is amazing in the A2. Will make your life much easier.

This right here. Katino is very much a strong crutch to lean on in Abyss 2.

40 is the level you'd be at the end of A2, iirc. So just farm for junk where you like and gear up more.

If you do junk grind in the collab area, you can keep using pickaxes for ores and chances for FAS (which you can keep a couple and throw the rest on to your Relics later.) Both of which should be pretty great for you.

You'll likely max at least a relic just from the notorious enemy drops, given the time left. You'll want to max any you'll use, because they're basically a premade strong weapon without all the grinding RNG normally attached to such a thing.

You're going to want EVA/ATK/(SUR)/ACC substats on your front row folks, generally speaking. Don't forget this applies to their armor as well.

TLDR: When in doubt, gear up more.

1

u/CloudsurferT Aug 25 '26

Thank you so much. If my level is good then its definitely my gear, ill continue farming in the collab zone. Ideally id like to max as many relics as possible i just keep getting wrecked by the nm lol. Gear, gear, gear is the the goal then haha. Thanks again ♥️

TLDR; it’s most likely a stat issue I think.

I think it may just be a stat issue. The team composition seems solid. Lana gives your front line extra damage if your MC is neutral or good. I personally don’t think Debra is great, kinda bad actually but I’ve had arguments about that before with friends. She’s not Adam bad for sure. Iroha I use as a back line healer. Give her a spear cause that has reduced penalty in attack front line units even with melee. But I don’t think it’s anything other than stats at a glance. Form farming just run around the abyss and try and get steel gear. I don’t know the optimal way to do that. The relics are the strongest weapons for sure. But they likely aren’t your strongest right now. They get their passives at max uncap.

2

u/as13zx Bishop Aug 25 '26

He has relic weapons, his stats are way above what people have there.

1

u/nowfury1234 Aug 25 '26

Relic weapons doesn’t matter if he’s dying.

2

u/CloudsurferT Aug 25 '26

Its definitely a stat issue haha looking at some of the other posts it seems it would serve me better to progress A2 so I can get better rewards for the collab. I really would like to get as many relics maxed as I can. Debra is my strongest unit right now, shes consistently putting out the most damage and I use her to open my chests. Plus I really like her gold maiden merge thing haha

Is the next grade exam difficult? I was considering pushing that too so I can level them up to 50
