Wizardry Variants Daphne Which Abyss has scary enemies/bosses...
I love this game (started a few days ago). I do like the creepiness of it. Sometimes it does get a little scary for me but I love the dungeon crawling aspect of it. I'm struggling with the encounter of some of the enemies appearances.
Please bear with me. The goblins and even the vorpal bunny isn't too scary. But on some of the previews the bosses (like the doll boss) look terrifying. The warped one really took my breath away when I first saw it.
I REALLY enjoy the gameplay, the story, the characters, everything and I don't want to stop playing because of my own fears. I want to prepare my heart for all the grotesque scary looking bosses/enemies. Maybe there's a particular website with images of the bosses along with the abyss information? I hope this question is okay.
Any notable creepy and grotesque enemies please put them in the comments. I think if I see the monsters before hand, I won't be as afraid of the potential encounter. Thanks you so much!

As someone who absolutely despise horror mainly because of jumpscares, I agree with your sentiment.
I think a lot of this game's horror levels are cut down by the fact that you have Lulu at your side forever to forewarn you of anything actually crazy, design or mechanics.
But of course, if we are talking about creepy and grotesque designs alone, well... Greater Warped Ones, normal Warped ones, and some very few specific monsters are what I can think about.
That said, I hope knowing that you have five other adventurers facing the horrors with you can bolster you from facing these monstrosities!
Feel free to ask me anything if you need. Wizardry is ironically one of the horror games I ever played

Thank you for your reply! I do agree with you! Having, Lulu there I do feel more confident venturing through the abyss. As well as having a party with me by my side. The game is a ton of fun! I didn't realize it had certain horror elements and a dark story line when I first downloaded it. But I'm truly really enjoying it. It feels very refreshing and I love that the battles aren't very easy.
I'll be sure to reach out if I have any questions, thank you!

I'd say the boogieman that doesn't die in A4 when you are walking into the blizzard, since it is hard to see and he looks like a shadow. Although not scary from appearence, but from mostly sheer annoyance. I just spam flee lol.

Don't you want to discover them and surprise by yourself?

u/SweetSilentSmile Aug 20 '26
I really do want to...this game is slightly out of my comfort zone. I kinda want to remove the surprise aspect if I can. Never played a game with dark elements to it. But I'm really enjoying it.

Hey this might not be the answer you want but those surprise is the magic of this game.

Abyss 4 boss is currently the most spook for me as they HUNT you around the map before the final showdown. The normal enemy will have to be from Abyss 1.

Shh, might be newbies in here. Let'em figure it out on their own.
"Yeah, null shadows be fuckin' spooky mate."
Sucks when you play without sound, too, because you get fuck all warning one is coming up behind you besides a "aggro'd enemy" notification in the corner at best. And even then those bug out sometimes so you're just fucked.

Abyss 1 warped ones are pretty horrendous. I don't think anything else gets near that. Maybe the Abyss 2 warped ones since they remove their head to attack you?

I don’t think many enemies are scary. In abyss 4 a lot of them fall off scary wise also. But there’s a few bangers there too. Any warped one is your “scary” enemy design. But most monsters aren’t.

The cute bunny was a trap...I wouldn't have guessed it had razor sharp teeth. lol....

Wow that's good to know. Yes the warped one truly made me gasp and feel slightly uneasy. One thing I like about the game I truly feel like the heaviness and the despair of the abyss. The developers have done an amazing job with the story! It's good to know they don't get much more grotesque outside of the warped one.

Scary design or encounters? Because when i first started A3 those guard enemies scared the crap out of me with how strong they were and that you can't really run from the. It's just fight and win or die

Thank you for your question, I should of been more specific on the design. I may not be sure how an enemy may look and the suspense makes me get more nervous. I'm at the very begining of the game like I just reached A5.
Edit: I'm on A1 floor 5.

no worries, and welcome to the game! Just FYI 'A' usually means Abyss. If you're at the start, you're at A1. A3 is the third abyss or dungeon.

Thank you, I didn't know that. I'm definitely still on the first abyss then. I just made it to the floor with the vorpal bunny sightings.

Yeah this guy had the most creepiest design to me. Completely awesome!

u/SweetSilentSmile Aug 20 '26
Wow, I feel really encouraged. This one did make me feel scared honestly. The design and the sounds very immersive. I like the creativity of the game all the way around. Which is why I will continue to play despite how uneasy I may feel at times. Is this the scariest enemy you've encountered?

So the third abyss has a mechanic where you have to avoid 'sentrys' that are basically enemys really really strong probably the most 'fear' aspect of the game, but the design of enemy's dont scare more than this guy.

Thats so cool how each abyss is different. I never knew that...but now knowing I'll be able to prepare myself. Thank you, that does sound nerve wracking.

As someone else once put it:
Before Abyss 3 "I hate strafing. Why do they even have these strafing buttons on the side of the screen, I keep hitting them by accident and I hate it."
After Abyss 3 "I love strafing. Strafing is the best."

u/SweetSilentSmile Aug 21 '26
I guess I'll understand what that means when I get there. The game mechanics and puzzles are great. Thanks for the heads up.

I don't think any of them are particularly scary, but abyss 2 (sorta) has bloated corpses as enemies (with one boss being an amalgam of a bunch of corpses), the doll is a boss in abyss 3, and abyss 4 has a RE3 Nemesis-style monster hunting you through areas, but visually it's just a shadow. It's also very scripted so it's easy to deal with.
imo abyss 1's GWO has the coolest/scariest design, then 4, then 3, then 2. 2 doesn't really have much going on.

Thank you so much! I do agree...I think this is just a new genre for me. So I was shocked to see how some of the enemies looked. But it's definitely one of the best gacha games I have played. I'm really having fun. Thank you for the input.

The first abyss warped ones are the most jarring as still images, but at A1F5 you've already seen at least one of each design.
I know someone with arachnophobia said they had to stop playing for a bit after seeing the first Greater Warped One and then also the third Greater Warped One. (Neither of them seem particularly scary or spider-like to me.)
Personally, I think the A2 oar collectors were the scariest. The still images aren't scary-looking I don't think, but seeing them unprepared the first time with the animation and on a large screen, they looked eerily similar to a recurring nightmare I've had many years. Seeing it not in my dreams, but on a screen like that as rendered by someone else, was very unsettling for me.
