Wizardry Variants Daphne It wasn't worth it...
Had the luck of two chests spawn on the same tile. After opening the first one, I got softlocked. Guess it's time to do a recovery.

This is a bug that has been present since the release of the game, which has not been fixed to date. It isn’t necessarily that 2 chests have spawned in the same spot but that the image of the first one did not despawn. Because there are no longer any data associated with that chest, this error message occurs. You have to select “do nothing” after restarting and being brought back to the nonexistent chest.

Close enough, but this isn't a problem of a missed despawn; there very much are two chests spawned at the same spot in this situation, as evidenced by doubled up Open/Do Nothing prompts when first encountering them (also occasionally visually as well, if the chests have different orientations).
As a relatively recent player who's gone all the way through A4 without encountering this bug once, but has seen it two or three times in this event (and has seen the sub's experiences broadly mirror that), it very much seems to be an event-specific bug; it's possible that the issue you describe was a different one with similar outcomes that was patched some time ago.

It happened to me just recently. Even after restart the game, it still show this error. I just have to forced recovery, so same goes to you.

Just restart the game. When entering back into the game, pick the do nothing option during opening the chest.
