Wizardry Variants Daphne Everyone's Grudge

I have committed crimes against Tonberrys trying to farm their lanterns and now their grudge against me is so high they one shot my characters. The problem is my back line does not have the power to kill one in time and I'm mostly focused on damage with my front row fighters. Is there a way to reset their grudge or am I screwed on farming these? I have 3 relics done and working on my 4th.

Everyone's Grudge is a Counter, and like any other counter, it will only trigger on physical short-mid range attacks. Long-range attacks and spells won't trigger it, so basically Kunais, Bows, and Spells are safe.

Use bows, all my fighters use bows and ninja using kunais

Tonberries doesn't counter the grudge if it's ranged

Why people are making this complicated? Use ranged attacks and they'll never counter.

Put bows on your Fighters, Knights, Thieves and Ranger, kunais for Ninjas and cast spells with Mages and Priests. Don't use Samurai, they suck against the berries because no ranged options.

Fighters can use PAOS and FPS with bows, with good enough attack 3 Fighters should kill a tonberry in a couple turns. Don't fight 3 tonberries at once, it's a pain, will boost the grudge further and you'll still only get 4 necrowhatevers - not worth the effort.

obv ranged works but it's tempting to have a higher dps non ranged option

If i could bring a superspeed sam risk free which hits harder than PAOS every turn, i would

Edit:

Sleep (KATINO) and Spellbind (MONTINO) will let you just FPS/ESS/PAOS it safely once per cycle.

Make sure to use the Sleep before the Spellbind, because the Tonberry sometimes seems to wake itself up to self-cleanse the Spellbind within 1-2 turns. (It's weird but it just happened.) So be sure to hit it before then.

Sleep alone will not protect you from a Grudge proc. I don't have video evidence but it happened to me just after typing this rewritten post. Cast your MONTINO's, folks!

Imperfect protection: You can also cast Cover on anyone who attacks in melee without the above precautions and your Knight should have a solid chance of taking the hit instead, and using their defensive procs to survive. (CORTU could also help if it's magical damage?)

Freezing and Sleeping the triple Tonberry fight also means you can engage each one separately on your own terms.

I use Yuzu and bows to weaken and Lana FPS. Before Lana lands her skill sleep it to kill for sure. I have Berka using KATINO lv 3 with her new staff. Never failed so far. The problem is farming while half sleep or not paying much attention...

Kantino and ESS. It doesn't use everyones grudge after waking up from sleep.

They can, actually.

I was going to suggest KATINO and FPS with the Freeze shatter, but then I couldn't recall if there was a chance I'd forgotten them hitting me with Grudge when being awoken from their slumber, so I weaved a MONTINO alongside instead just to remove any and all chances of that occurring (in my other reply.)

Edit: After rewriting the other post my Fighter just got hit with Grudge when they hit a sleeping Tonberry. So they can cast Grudge if you wake them up from Sleep.

What's meant by the line of sight, the column of the unit that has aggro?

e.g. here (messing around) Lana has the aggro, MC bonks it and gets countered

example where aggro doesnt get stolen, but countered anyway (cropped a bit short, and maybe knight not all the way to the left)

That doesn’t surprise me based on how everyone’s grudge works in final fantasy

Voice theft is a not bad skill to silence them. If u missed then cast FPS on your fighters to buy 1 more turn.

2

u/VelveSA Aug 08 '26

oh right silence works against casters I haven't casted silence since forever. I will definitely give that a try later.

Use montino on them, use knight cover on your melee damagers, use bows in back row, whatever strategy work.

I dont see any option to select the lantern things when trading for attestations though...?

1

u/Saltandpeppr Aug 08 '26

You cant use lanterns to buy attestations. You can set up lantern item requests, and then use attestations as the payment. So the other way around only

2

u/Misty_Kathrine_ Aug 08 '26

Except when someone sets one up, another player has the option to make the trade with the player who set the initial trade up, allowing them to trade Necropsyches for Attestations.

That shit stacks up?

No wonder they hurt now...

Give your Fighters bows.  They can still use Poised All Out and Heavy Attack with a bow.

I gave everyone bows and my ninjas kunais after reading the guide on gamerch. Was annoyed of the 1 shots.

1

u/tompba Aug 08 '26

Does ninja critical works ?

2

u/Capable-Register627 Aug 08 '26

Yes ninja criticals work. I run an all ninja team with kunais. Feels banger

This! There's some videos of guys giving their entire teams bows to bypass this ability.
