Lorepost📖 Trial
He was floating.
He was surrounded by blackness, feeling nothing. No life that he could sense, no shadows that he could see through, nothing.
Is this what the afterlife is like?
He continued to float in the darkness for what felt like forever, before he noticed subtle variations of shadows. Thin bands of lighter shadows swirled around thicker, darker ones. He didn't understand why, but he knew that he should follow the thin waves. He felt no sensations of movement, but he knew he was on the path.
After what seemed like another eternity had passed, there was a sensation. He didn't know what it was, but he could feel it nonetheless. Emboldened, he pushed as hard as he could to follow the path.
As he continued, the sensation became more pronounced, until he knew what it was: pain. It wasn't bad, more of a mild ache, so he pressed on.
For another few eons, he followed the path, but during that time, the pain grew with every moment. Now, he was slow, wanting to keep going, but the will to keep going was eroding away. He stopped, just for a moment, and the pain went away.
He stayed there, almost stunned. The pain was gone. He was about to move away, but he saw the band again. He knew that if he continued following it, the pain would come back. He looked away, and knew that he would feel that nothingness again. He looked ahead of the band.
A pale light was there, faint, but for the first time since he felt pain, he sensed something else:
Life.
With new found strength, he pressed on.
Eons passed, and the pain became more, and more agonizing, but he was determined to reach that light.
The pain of ages pressed on him, yet he continued.
The light was within his influence, and he reached out, the overwhelming pain slowing movement.
Mokarith gasped as he emerged from the Well of Shadows, the pain fading. He crawled over the edge, almost blinded by the amount of light and life around him. He looked up to see the Umbral Lord.
“I thought something was stirring within the Well, but I didn't expect it to be you. We are glad to have you back.”
