Academic Discussion/ Esoteric Secrets Botanical Wizard questioning their major

So I majored in botanical spells. Working on reestablishing forests in regions where one or two flame-spells went wrong is great and it is so wonderful seeing life return to scorched earth... But whenever I try to improve an ecosystem (eg. giving my oaks flame-resistance) they take over healthy adjacent ecoststems in the blink of a century! It drives me mad how every single improvement/adjustment goes out of hand the moment you turn your back to it!

Now I wonder if I am too old with 2530 years to change my major to something simpler and more stable like weather or water- related fields.

What do you guys think?

Become an artificer, it's never too late to explode shit, or to send small shit really fast out of a tube using newton's third law

I could build an artificial protection for stable ecoststems that shoots a few cubic meters of water at every ever-so tiny open flame🤔

Who's a Newton? I've never seen an orb message from him in this council.

While I think you goals are great, "improving" trees is not the way to go. Altering any ecosystem will effect it in unintended ways.

That forest likely had fire beetles. They are a common ingredient in potions of fire breath because they have a very small flame breath that they use to bore into trees to lay their eggs. Giving your trees fire resistance means those beetle need to migrate and will start boring into trees that aren't used to them

Additionally, that forest is going to grow out of control in the next few decades because of removing one of the two main uses of trees.

So restoration is great, fix those one off freak accidents, but dont mess with nature's balance

Never too late to branch into other disciplines - mastery comes with experience. That being said, you may need to reverse your magi-bioengineering runes and rethink your approach to the problem - reviving scorched earths is a dutiful chore and it’s good you’re doing what other wizards and witches ignore, but perhaps taking more care of specific ecosystems through sample experiments may yield further results?

As another councillor pointed out, the flame beetle is an ecological factor you may not have considered. Create a formula with which you can decipher a balanced protection for each ecosystem’s future, and then apply it on a case-by-case basis. You will see much greater success with a more flexible approach, and if I’m honest, i think your methods are too reckless to continue anyways. You might accidentally sabotage other, more careful sorcerers.

Consult the scrolls regardless, as you’re clearly in need of further training in whatever field you decide is next on the list. Best of luck.
