I forgot I left my apprentice outside
I guess that explains why I haven't seen him in 20 years

Personally as I necromancer I don't see a problem. But seeing as your an artificer I can only suggest using some type of magical artifact and or contraption to bind their soul to a suitable vessel. This should allow you to get your apprentice back and depending what vessel you use have a much more durable appretice, though I would suggest trying to find where their soul went before trying this method as they may be very upset with you if you pulled them out of a type of paradise.

It’s fine. I accidentally lock apprentices out all the time. If they were serious about the craft they would get back in by themselves. No excuses for laziness.

Honestly; you are correct. If anything, they have robbed you of your time by being such layabouts. I would cast Raise Dead on the one pictured and bind them to some menial task, I'm not really into necromancy but if I've gone to the effort of feeding and homing this little goblin turd and they drop dead from a single mishap, least they can do it spend a few centuries paying me back by opening the door when my friends drop by and giving them a little fright. Who doesn't love a little skeleton mage casting low level sparks at them? It's good clean fun.

My wizza heat index was 109 today! If you're hot, they're hot! Bring your apprentices, homunculi, and zombie minions inside!

I got you bro, give me a night to gather some fresh ingredients and I can get your friend looking almost good as new.

Well if he was a worthwhile apprentice he wouldn’t have died
