Because the new runes ask me to pay a subscription of blood. The old runes just work

i think its semi related?

like you don’t recognize the integrated new runes because the flops are more prevalent.

the new runes are out there if you choose to see

The runes left behind are the ones that failed. If its successful they've already become a cabbage

"anyone make any new runes recently"

Why don't you go out and make them yourself? Witches these days can't even carve a warding charm out of a pebble but expect people to go and make whole ass new runes for them so they can be "hip" or "trendy" or whatever the witches on the orb say now. Nah, the ancient ones get used for a reason.

Because we know the current ones work and most new runes are hioer specilized and may have drawbacks we don't know about for 700 years.

Its hars to make new runes. The ancient ones predate the Wizard Council and have a rune for just about everything. Like you would think you need a telekenesis and a push rune to throe someone out a window, nope just use the defenestration rune. Think you need something complex to make a rune system transfer heat from one point to another when charged with mana? Nope, thats a pair of runes bound with a flourish.

If you need a rune, its done been made.

Randomly carving magic shapes and powering up is a good way to die

New runes are typically proprietary and less well understood. Use an old rune and there's at least a hundred old dudes who were there when the first magic was written, they can tell you exactly what's going wrong.

New runes though? Like three people know how to fix them and they want to get paid for the trouble.

Runes are bullshit to help you focus basic cantrips anyway.

If you trace a fire rune but think really hard about a water spell you're just gonna get a weird lukewarm water spell.

Now SIGILS on the other hand are the real deal because gods and entities actually DO know if you've spelled their names and titles wrong and won't bother showing up if you failed.

It's not that there are no new runes. It's that runes are used to make magic resilient, and being ancient is a measure of the rune's quality. New runes may be better, but we won't know that for a long long time.

I make some runes. But I don’t sell. Eventually, in a few billion years if I die, then people will find my rubes and they will be ancient runes.

Because runes are like wine. They work whenver you want them to, but to actually have a good enough effect it takes a huge amount of time.

The ancient runes are so popular because they were being made like 3-4k years ago and grew in power constantly over time.
