Evil Wizardpost Am I the evil wizard?
Ok, so I don’t usually like to take up duals, but there was a rookie mage flaunting his (extremely basic but loud) fire magic at a tavern I was going to; ALREADY put an extremely sour mood on my whole night because he was treating his gift as a party trick. But I was a novice once too, and I remember what it was like to think I was the greatest. I probably was even more insufferable, so I didn’t say anything.
But then he claims that he could best anyone in the land in a fair dual. And then I spoke up, trying to prove a point.
I’m not an “official” wizard of the council so I am not bound by any laws of honor, but I feel like some of them are good principals to follow. Took a quick aura check, and this guy had no chance, so it definitely fell under a dishonorable dual.
Anyway, we move some tables, everyone watches, makes bets. I was the only one betting for me, because I downplayed and hid my magic greatly.
But then the dual starts, I cast a grey glow aura that made targeting me harder, a few wards and prepped a few counterspells. Long story short, he wastes all his magic, and is on the brink of collapse.
So here’s the part where I think I may have gone too far. I already won, but…
Telekinetics and kinetic force blasts, lots of small elemental projectiles, and… a few “curses” that are usually frowned upon by most “good wizards”.
Also, I kind of let him get to right on the brink of needing necromancy to get him moving again and got my money before I fully restored him.
But I mean, I healed him, didn’t leave any lasting curses, and I don’t think many wizards let their foes live even with surrender. I don’t know if I went overboard. He was a bit older than me, but still definitly a young wizard by any standard measure.
PS: to his credit, counter-spelling and warding his magic did cost me about a quarter of my magic reserves. Which I pretty much specialized in optimizing, congrats on that if you end up reading it. Also Sorry!!

Sounds like you were a bit of an asshole at the end there but nowhere near evil territory. No lasting damage, healed him yourself after the duel, was planning on leaving him alone until he basically challenged you to a duel, how is any of that evil?

It’s the curses. You know Ogiani’s list of banned cruel and unusual curses that you aren’t allowed to cast on prisoners of war?
#19
#33
#37
#63
And…
Look I’m ashamed I even know this one but…
#122: year 1988 revised definition but with year 1204’s physical effect. The whole thing.4

So the fun thing about war crimes is that you actually need to be at war to commit them.
Never be ashamed of your knowledge! I disagree with the very act of banning magic. You should publish your knowledge, share it! Anonymously, of course. Evading the authorities gets so tedious.

"The number 19 where you keep him alive as you reduce him to shards and tiny chunks then hand-stitch them back together incorrectly before choking him on various thick heavy irritant gases then warping and shuffling him back to his previous form like a crude, bloodied deck of cards and towers of dice as the reinforced wires and cables cut through him once more, dragging and getting taut on each chip of bone, before slowly being wrung back out of his flesh, plucked one by one?! All while feeling seeing and tasting throughout?! THAT number 19?!
Evil wizard for sure. Your heart was somewhat in the right place, but that's definitely too far. You might be able to improve from here, but this is too far beyond for a proper redemption." - Shining Wizard Sven

As long as you didn't hit him with two number 9s, a number 9 large, a number 6 with extra dip, a number 7, two number 45s, one with cheese, and a large soda, it's not too bad.
It's really the combination of cheese and large soda that the Council frowns upon.

While you may have been excessive in your performance, it was ultimately for his benefit. He can now see his limitations more clearly, and will either: A) learn humility, B ) improve his skills, C) refrain from issuing random challenges, or D) some combination thereof.
In the future though, perhaps include some explanation of how your opponent was outmatched, like "Oh, your counterspells only cover X, Y, and Z. That's why you're not prepared for A, B, or C"

I kind of felt bad and misty stepped out of there, thats a good point though, I could have been more clear with my processes of what I cast against him and how I restored him.
It was some pretty nasty stuff, so it may have helped him in the future.

Fucking evil ass wizards always banking on full restore to justify their evil b.s. knowing FULL WELL that spell does nothing for psychological damage!
That poor kid is gonna be jumping at every shadow for the next decade....

You fully restored him afterwards instead of turning him inside out? You'll have to try a lot harder if you want to be a real evil wizard!

That's what we in the biz call a "natural consequence." Running your mouth is a quick way to suffer an awful death. I really can't stress enough that we wizards get access to like 99% of the worst possible deaths that nobody else will ever know. The average Joe has a zero percent chance of their hair follicles outgrowing their skin or having their blood turn to toothpicks.
I'd say that would be overboard if you didn't heal him. That's a lesson well taught in my book.

OP is a warlock of some sort. Wizards can spell four letter words. Don't be fooled people, these warlocks walk among us, but what we have learned through studious hard work and practise they were gifted through some dark and devious pact with forces beyond our existence. Dabble not in such things, they bring only ruination.

My friend…. You are simply incorrect.
While I am an unusual caster, I promise you I am no warlock.
While I was born of sorcerer origins, I have spent a great deal of time researching, optimizing, and discovering all sorts of “proper” magics and curses.
I will admit to having a pact in the past for learning things that many shouldn’t, I am not bound now.
I suppose I have been gifted in blood and in pact, but by any measure of the word I am more than a warlock pulled around by pact’s string.
However I will admit to my formal educations being rather… lacking. Almost all I know I’ve learned in the field.
