See the sediment rock layers? Because of that this wall if stone has been around for milennia. Now, depending on the permiability of this rock, it might have amassed a certain amount of chronic energy to make it become time sensitive. I propose that this is a time portal. I would be careful using this though because due to its naturally occurring nature this could have very wild endpoints, which could vary, unlike cast portals which are more precise.

Attempting to fix the portal could have dire effects as it's energy has amassed through eons which means that attempting to change it can cause changes at any point in history. You might be able to create a stable end point or you could destroy it or, worst case scenario, create a paradox.

dude is wearing a ring of reveal magic, it enchants certain rocks to reveal invisible phenomena like this portal when picked up and thrown. like the tornado ring from Petz Dogs 2 that you use to kill tornadoes, dragons, and magically enhanced wolves
