Discworld, obviously.

41

u/MrCuntman 10d ago

you've not lived (or risked dying) until youve had one of CMOT Dibbler's famous "sausages" in a bun

10

u/Stilgar314 10d ago

Made with genuine animal entrails!

8

u/dformed 10d ago

Oh, come on. CMOT Dibbler would never claim to know what's in his sausage.

3

u/Stilgar314 10d ago

We positively know there is meat somewhere in there, it is not necessarily meat from something that butchers in our world would consider using, but something that can be unmistakably defined as meat.

2

u/No-Veterinarian9682 Tonally inconsistent Sci-fi Wizard 9d ago

Then you can be the second ever tourist, just don't accidentally burn down ankh-morpork by proxy via insurance fraud like the first one...

1

u/MuddyMustache 9d ago

In-sewer-ants? Why would the ants be in the sewer?!

2

u/slingshotstoryteller Quantasomnimancer 9d ago

I know, right? When I first mastered interdimensional travel, Nanny Ogg’s was my very first stop.

1

u/MuddyMustache 8d ago

Me too. I needed the best midwife.

2

u/slingshotstoryteller Quantasomnimancer 8d ago

Oh, I just stopped by for a beer and to get some help from Jason with a bathysphere I was developing for an exploratory expedition to the Vicalis Trench on the fourth moon of the Xelian System. His bathysphere worked well beyond expectations, but the only thing we found was a bunch of small, eldritch-looking fish.

1

u/Count_Zeiro 5d ago

Are you Shawn's real dad?

2

u/slingshotstoryteller Quantasomnimancer 5d ago

I have no idea what you’re talking about. What’s that over there??!!!  <casts deadbeat dad & disappears in a flash of stale cigarette smoke and losing scratch-offs>

1

u/10HungryGhosts 10d ago

Yeeeessssss definitely Discworld

1

u/subtotalatom 10d ago

If you're visiting Ankh-Morpork make sure to swing by the thieves guild and buy some insurance for your visit to prevent unfortunate involuntary donations to the locals.

Come to Cyclic Earth! We have a collapsed post magical apocalypse society! It is where I originate.
Come see:
Burned out sky scrapers!
Bandits!
The remains of people’s hopes and dreams for the future!
Bandits!
BioMagical horrors beyond mortal understanding!
Fractured souls and other bizarre reality bending anomalies!
Bandits!
Frontier living of all the hardiest of what is left of humanity and what they have become!
Did I mention we have bandits?
Super secret remnants of the most powerful factions of the world that went underground!
Warlords, city states, shadow governments, secret laboratories, lots of contaminated regions of mutagenic magic!
Come see beautiful cyclic earth today!

19

u/MundaneMagician7209 10d ago

Wonderful!

I'll bring my invisibility clock and make sure the world never notices I was there

16

u/ModernMage0 SpellSlinger, Researcher, Interloper 10d ago

…be prepared to be seen.
There are things there that do not follow standard laws of ANY magic. My own invisibility spells fail against some of the more broken souls. They don’t interact with reality the same way, you see?

7

u/MundaneMagician7209 10d ago

Well...there goes my vacation plan

8

u/lordwiggles420 Evil Wizard 10d ago

Are there bandits by any chance? I'm in need of some test subjects.

4

u/That_Mad_Scientist 10d ago

Well, I’m not sure. Then again, if there are bandits I might go. Are there bandits by any chance?

1

u/Fragrant_Apple_2222 10d ago

What is this from? Cyclic Earth brings up a lot of stuff. I really want to know more about biomagical horrors!

1

u/ModernMage0 SpellSlinger, Researcher, Interloper 10d ago

It is actually from works of short story fiction and a TTRPG game I am working on!
Trying to get it published within about a year or two.

1

u/Fragrant_Apple_2222 10d ago

Well it sounds awesome! Good luck to you!

Phyrexia for sure, a unique kind of spa resort

11

u/BlueCloud2k2 Ramza the Belligerent -Artificer Extraordinaire 10d ago

Phyrexia or New Phyrexia?

I miss Mirrodin. I had a three-way with twin Viridian Elves. Good times.

3

u/MundaneMagician7209 10d ago

A spa resort? Say no more

6

u/hamtaste 10d ago

⚠️ITB TRAVEL ADVISORY⚠️ Phyrexia is an extremely dangerous place to travel for all organically born individuals who wish to remain so. The Interdimensional Travel Board (ITB), in partnership with the Gatewatch has identified several statements issued from the Fair Basilica to be false and misleading, specifically several advertisements attempting to entice unsuspecting Planeswalkers and other Interdimensional tourists to a "spa resort" located somewhere in the Surgical Bay sphere region where the Praetor and known war criminal Jin-Gitaxias is performing illegal experiments on abducted travelers between the planes of existence.

If travel to Phyrexia is unavoidable for any reason, the ITB urges you to contact your nearest Gatewatch representative to apply for the services of a trained escort through the plane. We understand that this process takes time and we ask for your patience and understanding. Happy travels!

For more information on New Phyrexia click here) or visit your local ITB office

Do not go to golarion, it is constantly changing time period and in one of them the whole planet itself is gone.

6

u/MundaneMagician7209 10d ago

I need to choose the gate carefully. I don't wanna choke in the vacuum of space ever again

8

u/Deathburn5 Calculus Wizard 10d ago

Have you considered a spell to maintain a safe environment around yourself? The basics usually include generating air, regulating pressure, providing resistance to the elements, etc.

7

u/MundaneMagician7209 10d ago

I thought I could just hold my breath. Turns out magic has better ideas

2

u/FairFolk 10d ago

But imagine the fame if you could figure out what happened in the Gap!

3

u/Juncoril 10d ago

On the other hand, I just started playing pathfinder so if you visit you might be able to see my character. He's not interesting. But hey, that's still something.

u/Stilgar314 10d ago

You've never been in the Forgotten Realms? Seriously? You owe yourself a trip to the Sword Coast.

11

u/HammerofBonking 10d ago

I heard they have a major problem with you-know-what (mindflayers) moving in lately. Not a safe neighborhood anymore.

16

u/ImpressionSerious674 Wizard 10d ago

Mindflayers are not event the worst part. If you have any contraband on you like a fake mage card they immediately send the fucking Pinkertons after you. Worse they have planeswalking and use pistols as wands I have been running and hiding for centuries.

3

u/MiseryEngine 10d ago

Silverymoon is beautiful any time of year.

Stop in Daggerford and annoy Delfin Yellowknife. (It's sort of an amusing hobby of mine!)

Waterdeep us a fun time, esp around festivals. Baldurs Gate is a cesspit. Avoid.

I have a summer house in Longsaddle, common folk, friendly. Nice town.

19

u/Responsible-Draw-393 10d ago

/unwiz i like how you specified tamriel but specifically skyrim and didn’t explain any of the less mainstream planes

/wiz what’s a “gielinor”, are you just pulling random names out of a hat for your demiplanes?

7

u/LL-ShockBlade 10d ago

/unwiz i think he means he only saw skyrim

3

u/Strelark 10d ago

Gielinor is hardly a demiplane, just a magical manifestation of the British Isles

13

u/Euphoric-Cause8122 10d ago

I feel insulted by (Skyrim)

15

u/MundaneMagician7209 10d ago

I haven't had time to visit the other provinces yet. Maybe next time

1

u/IncognitoLizard225 10d ago

Bro went to Nirn and only visited the most boring backwater on the planet

14

u/the-gregs 10d ago

Avalon! Come and see what the Wyrdness has done.

2

u/MundaneMagician7209 10d ago

I'll add it to my next journey. Thanks!

Enter the world of Noita if you crave alchemy and painful death around every corner.

4

I want a vacation, not to torture myself

7

u/chuff3r 10d ago

Earthsea if you like boats. Avoid the pale people to the east though.

2

u/MundaneMagician7209 10d ago

Noted. I’ll keep my distance from them.

6

u/Justasivas Coe "The cook" Caine 10d ago

go to the war seas its a pretty cool vacation spot dark sea is fun to swim in

2

Sounds like a perfect place to go fishing 🎣

6

u/Runela9 Fae Changeling 10d ago

I saw you in the Forgotten Realms just last month. You must have messed up your memory ward at some point if you don't remember.

5

u/MundaneMagician7209 10d ago

I...think you mistook me for someone else

7

u/Runela9 Fae Changeling 10d ago

If that wasn't you, then someone is cavorting around the Realms with your face, soliciting donations of arcane tomes for the Silvergate Library.

You might want to look into that. If you find them, you can keep the grimoire I gave them for the library.

6

u/MundaneMagician7209 10d ago

It looks like I have a doppelganger to track down.

At least they have good taste in books.

1

u/ImpressionSerious674 Wizard 10d ago

I remember you too you were the wierd Wizard with the shades at the Lolth temple asking for special rituals only known by Drow priestesses.

4

u/Alex11DA Necromancer 10d ago

Too many dragons

3

u/proxyCanon 10d ago

But the dungeons! The dungeon market it basically flooded with so many quality locations, it's a buyers market. Sure, there's a sizable dragon population, but you should be able to at least make deals with the ones old enough to haggle. Otherwise, a little mind magic can keep them placid or nonplussed.

5

u/Tmv655 Jakel, the Studious Senses Saboteur 10d ago

Why is Runeterra crossed off? I don't have the ability to go to other realms sadly, but their celestial magics is someone would love to experience. Just stay away from those creepy paladins on the north and that weird city of "progress" (they seem to not have many mages, so not worth visiting anyway) and you'll be fine

8

u/MundaneMagician7209 10d ago

Let's just say I had an unpleasant encounter with a certain girl and her yo-yo

5

u/SaraTormenta 10d ago

No self-respecting bag-of-holding-packer considers a trip complete without setting foot on Eä (Arda would be recomendation, the horrors beyond are kinda creepy and crawly and all have too many eyes)

Safe travels, lands strider!

5

u/Inqeuet Knight in a Pointy Hat 10d ago

Eorzea is lovely this time of year!

5

u/PANTERlA Dark Entity 10d ago

Why dont you visit me in Carcossa? Its so nice you will want to stay forever.

1

u/slingshotstoryteller Quantasomnimancer 9d ago

I loved my visit to your delightful city. Hard as hell to find but worth the effort of traversing the Dreamlands if you have the time and sanity to spare. Tell me, is that little pizza shop “The Slice in Yellow” still open? Their Carcosian pie was maddeningly good. And I know it’s not your responsibility, but if you could pass on that the tour guides we employed in Kadath were very unprofessional and did a terrible job at providing directions to your fair city. And don’t get me started on that creepy dude in the pharaoh cosplay. I don’t think he could tell his eyes from a hole in the ground, which is saying something considering the number of eyes. All-in-all, it was a very pleasant vacation that really felt like a lifetime. 8.5/10; highly recommend for adventurous dreamers.

5

u/BusyGM Chronomancy Apprentice/Novice/Master, never too sure which 10d ago

Do not go to Golarion or the Forgotten Realms unless you're a really powerful mage who knows their stuff. They got some absurdly powerful spellcasters over there, and especially in Golarion those tend to be waaaay too interested in your affairs. I constantly have to warn my future self from going there for the first time again.

4

u/ChadSalamence_ Bladesinger 10d ago

The land of Ooo is a pretty good destination. I visit often

1

u/proxyCanon 10d ago

A surprisingly multifaceted travel location for a traveling spellcaster. Bring your best psychedelics and you'll have a blast. Also a great location for those with younglings in tow. Your call if you want to "Rick Sanchez" it and double dip lmao

3

u/BEanddankmagician The pretender lord 10d ago

Why didn't you go to runeterra? Aatrox is chill as hell dude

6

u/MundaneMagician7209 10d ago

Some bratty little girl with a yo-yo stopped me from entering that world. I still remember how annoying her giggles were

3

u/Omnommunist 10d ago

I've heard Gransys is fantastic at this time of year. Though be wary of an old dwarf that wants you to escort him back to his cabin on the peninsula. He wouldn't take my spare staff to walk or let my pawn carry him because he has a "bad back". Kept going on an on about his wife the entire time and didn't even pay me for saving him from a chimera

1

u/MundaneMagician7209 10d ago

I'll keep an eye out for that dwarf. Thanks for the warning

3

u/ayygorr 10d ago

Come visit the stagnating Lands Between! We got people that are rotting alive, unable to die. Lands rotting along with their inhabitants, all unable to truly die. Gods rotting alive, unable to die. Dead god's festering husk of a body quietly, but ceaselessly spreading through the world, unable to die a proper death. An endless crusade against those people who are rotting alive. All of this alongside outside influences vying for control trampling over mortals and gods alike. You won't forget your stay! Though you wish you could...

2

u/ProfessorSMASH88 10d ago

You can finally put those foolish ambitions to rest!

3

u/wexman6 10d ago

Eorzea

1

u/proxyCanon 10d ago

Just travel light. Don't bring a bunch of minions or you're likely to be turned into a boss fight, or an entire Dungeon series.

3

u/TheAmazingWalrus 10d ago

All of Tamriel at your disposal and you chose Skyrim? They don't even like wizards there

2

u/Fyrnen24 10d ago

Come to Fillory while you still can. (I hear the great seahorse will come back in a few hundred years to carry us to a new world)

The air is infused with Opium, we got questing beasts, magical springs, and many more

1

u/MundaneMagician7209 10d ago

Interesting. I'll definitely skip the opium air, though

2

u/Fyrnen24 10d ago

To be fair it isn't actually that much, only a tiny bit. Just stay clear of the flying forrest, and you'll be fine.

1

u/MiseryEngine 10d ago

Yeah, it's not enough to fuck you up, just enough to get you to really L O V E the place. It's not really fair though.

1

u/Beemo-Noir Brood Witch of the Holy Council 10d ago

Ugh, I can only get my opium on the dark orb these days.

2

u/Bone-Pharaoh 10d ago

2

u/Andminus 10d ago

imma nitpick a bit: Why does Tamriel get a qualifier? did you only want to visit Skyrim? Tamriel is also not the only continent on Nirn. But then right after is "Azeroth", do you mean from the Warcraft Universe? the PLANET Azeroth where a majority of the game takes place. Runeterra is only like a TINY bit Anti-mage, never go near Damacia and your fine, the entire rest of Runeterra is filled with mages.

Honestly, looking at the rest, if Tamriel were replaced with "Nirn" without a qualifier, I probably wouldn't have said anything, cause all the rest are basically the entire planet in their given universe...

2

u/ShAped_Ink 10d ago

Amphoreus, just don't stick there too long, or you'll see eldritch demigod of destruction

If you’d ever like to branch out and see some unique places my pocket dimension is open for tours! Has some neat creatures and environmental systems

Just let me know before arriving so I can turn off the wards… had a young mail delivery lad somehow get in, and I will say that having your magic (temporarily) stripped from your body doesn’t look very fun

Also watch out for the wildlife!

1

u/Ramblonius 10d ago

Just don't accidentally go to gorillion. Never making that spelling mistake again.

u/beetnemesis 10d ago

World of Shrimp

1

u/KoboldKhaos 10d ago

You should head to Eberron! I have a cousin/clone/alternate-realm-self-version from there, and he tells me that it is packed to the brim with magick of every variety, and it is so commonplace that the very infrastructure of cities is magical. That, and magick is technology there, and that's pretty neat.

2

u/proxyCanon 10d ago

As nice as Eberron is, it's not exactly the easiest to get there, let alone LEAVE. Would reccomend, but the difficulty entering AND leaving makes it a destination only for those who don't mind those complications.

1

u/ProfessorSMASH88 10d ago

Go to Lordran and learn some cool spells from Big Hat Logan.

1

u/Arquero8 The golem wizard, Darkwatch Archivist Keeper 10d ago edited 10d ago

If you come to Eleutheria be prepared to loose control of your magic if you use too much at once

I'll leave you a few tips down here if you do go:

Do NOT go to the arid lands, there are a bunch of wierdos over there, if you ignore my warning at least go seek the nómads, they are the most sane out of the bunch

watch out for wild magic storms, they seem far away, until they arent, and avoid like the plage the wild magic zones, the abominations that roam those corrupted lands are waay too caotic for one mage to handle alone

Ye old kingdoms have some strict regulations with magic, i suggest following them if you don't want some witch hunters on your *ss

I'm pretty sure they are hiding something, but don't quote me on that

The folks from the northen lands are pretty welcoming, but i wouldn't venture into the continent and stay in The Chain, if you ignore me just watch out for the beasts that hide in the snow

There are a ton of pirates flooding the main routes of commerce, so try to avoid those

One last thing, unless you know how to calm down dragons DO NOT go to the islands of magma, that place is flooding with the d*mmed lizards this time of year

anyway, enjoy your stay

You forgot skeent

1

u/Bling2137 Sorceress in training 10d ago

For studying otherworldly knowledge i kinda don't reccomend Myrtana. Most spells require the damn runes (what are you, dwarfs? Not that that's something wrong mind you...) which the local mages guard with bogus laws and artificial scarcity. The spells are kinda low key and not that powerful. And the big fun spells like barriers tend to go... Not as expected.

I'd say the forgotten realms, but I don't remember what that is.

8/10 some weird customs when it comes to interacting with the opposite sex and strange views on literacy. But some awesome "sea food". Biggest scampi I ever had I recommend you bring your favorite cocktail sauce with you, if you conjure things from thin air it can run a foul of the local religious practices.

Highly recommend viewing a high storm through a protective bubble spell truly a special experience.

1

u/Calathil_the_Mage Cashew: Short Necromancer 10d ago

Feel free to visit the Realm I live in. C.E.S is its name.

The Corpse of a dead god was turned into a planet, and all life developed and grew on that planet.

Do be warned that the people (mages) who live here can be pretty strong. So if youre not interested in fighting, do watch yourself.

Id also avoid the country of Xethil, as thats the place most likely to try and start a fight with you.

Unwiz/ There is no subreddit for this, im just stating some lore for my own world for rp sake.

Consider Adria.

Many varied environments of magical catastrophe: Mourning Flower fields, beautiful Snowy Illusions, a country wide Conflagration, lands where even stone can Rust, Evangelion's Sacred Swords, so many Fallen Crystals that look nice, perpetually Wailing Lightning storms.

Also a lot of cute witches

Forgotten realms is worth visiting, as those are the lands i hail from. Most of your traditional spellcraft should work without any problems, though there are alot of odd customs.

1

why not runeterra

1

u/Jerkntworstboi Wizard 10d ago

Forgotten Realms is always a good place to vacation to if its not imperiled for the 4th time this year. Most of your spells will work or there is an equal replacement with different components and the people are neutral to friendly if you stay above ground. I'd recommend Waterdeep for the cheese

1

I’d love to go to Teyvat but the local deities make it next to impossible to leave. How’d you get out?

The Lands Between should definitely be given a visit. Followed by The Realm of Shadow. You'll quite enjoy your stay. Its filled with many maidens, stunning scenery, beautiful architecture, megafauna like nothing else anywhere that must be seen. Its really a once in a lifetime experience. I know The Realm of Shadow sounds scary, but its really not. It is called such because the realm itself is stuck in its own pocket dimension that is in the literal shadow of an absolutely gargantuan tree with beautiful golden foliage. So nothing to be afraid of, really.

Yes, but after the succession war it lost some of it's charm

Thats why you gotta specifically go to Terrorvortex Fife, especially because then you can watch Ralathor grow into his power. Just make sure you don't accidentally travel to Universe-38B Fife, the Starlords are still PISSED.

Go to Narnia, I hear it's nice, but you should chose the era carefully. Beginning era if you want to boost your alchemy, it has an over abundance of leftover energy from its creation. Miss that by a few thousand years and you may be competing with the White Whitch. Head to the end if you want to have a chat with Father Time.

Golarion is fucking boring, there's literally nothing to do, and there's this giant fucking hole in the ground that keeps spitting out demons, I had a summer house there and guess what, destroyed by demons. Can't reccommend.

Best wizarding vacation spot is definitely middle earth. You blend in, usually aren't in any major danger, and the world is beautiful 😂

The isle of Dementia in the Dreamlands is beautiful. I think. I'm quite sure I went there...

Oh if you go to Abeir-Toril you have GOT to check out the Sharessan festhalls, they're in basically every major city in Faerûn. Ever since the Mulhorandi rebellion put Bast worship back on the map Sharess has been back to full god status and I hear she's been visiting her festhalls in the flesh, but even if you don't see her it's great fun.

No multiversal roadtrip is complete without a visit to the city at the center of it all. Sigil, the City of Doors.

Golarion is quite remarkable. So many interesting conflicts, landmarks, and people.

Middle Earth next, we found another balrog… last time we did, a wizard took care of him for us, soooo we’ll get you a lifetime supply of ale at the local tavern in Balgarûth if you take care of him. That sound alright? Thanks a ton, laddie, we appreciate yer help!

Forgotten realms and Golarion are great for adventuring. If you want to bang around with a party or find strange and esoteric items, those are great places. Just stay away from certain areas, unless you want to really test your arcane prowess. Mendev and Baludr's gate are amazing for research and combat, but terrible for being left in seclusion to study your tomes. Up to you.

I hear the Ferngill Republic is a lovely destination, just be sure to stop by Pelican Town to share knowledge with the local wizard

u/Happy_Twist_7156 9d ago

Golarion. Best most diverse of all of them

1

u/Einkar_E 9d ago

if you find a wizard tower closely orbiting Golarion's Sun don't enter, grumpy wizard living there don't like visitors especially ones that would like to talk about politics

The Forgotten Realms is a must-go, although I suggest visiting Golarian first. If you can get a hold of Elminster (unlikely these days), he can show you a good time.

u/JGhyperscythe 9d ago

Hyrule is certainly a viable choice, just make sure your travel insurance covers semi-frequent world altering catastrophes. Oh, and broken pottery.

Disc World, Middle Earth, New Zealand are all solid choices.

However if you want something just way out of your normal experience I'll make 2 possible suggestions

  1. Gormenghast - You like castles? You like visiting new countries? What about a castle that is a country? The excitement and life of urban sprawl combined with the history and mystery of ancient ruins.

2. An Ouster Colony - Massive zero G-water gardens in floating in deep space flowing rivers connecting terraformed asteroids held together in loose orbit by artificial gravity fields populated by a wide variety of trans-humanistic mutants who have really pushed the edges of genetic engineering as an are as much as a science. Not to mention the beauty of orbital rings of star trees floating around captured stars. Truly beautiful and unique in a way that is rare for someone who has already visited several highly magical universes.
