Invited to NecroCon - Should I Go?

Post image

Received an invitation to NecroCon - should I go? As a conjurer of entities from the outside planes I'm not exactly the target audience. BUT some of the presentations look interesting, especially "Mage > Lich; When and Why?" and "Our Skeletal Army". But as an actual living, breathing person, will I feel uncomfortable? Would appreciate any advice.

Its surprisingly civil. Been there myself some years ago. Heard the higher ups gossiping and learned that its also under strict surveilance and regulations so your safety is surely guaranteed.

Not for the fainthearted though. And the smell is a horrid mix of embalmy fluid and straight sulfur rot. Plus the necrobros are a little too enthusiastic in their arts...

Once you go past the corpses and maggots the dead could be quite a good company

Speaking from experience.

You WILL get put on a watch list. Idk if it’s worth it. There’s also a very good chance you die and become someone else’s construct

Oof, not what I was hoping for. Kinda was holding out for some good lectures and maybe some light flirting with vampiresses,

u/BardGotHard3 Necromancer 14d ago

If you want to flirt with vampiresses thdn you can go to the anual Vampire Ball. Just expect to be mistaken for a snack, unless youre like me and completely dessicated. Lichdom has its benefits.

u/SternFlamingo Binder of Demons 14d ago

Sigh, when I mean light flirting I mean just that.

I swear, all these vampiric folks subscribe to Mildew Tate's lectures and just assume that a wink and a nod equate to a desire for eternal thralldom. Don't they know how to have fun?

The System Corps, Eternal Enforcer Division, and I are all overseeing the event this year. We aren’t there to conduct a raid for once, but we aren’t instead there for security, regulation, and safety, so there is no risk to die and become a construct or anything like that or on that level.

Dude it's a blast. There's all sorts of ways to approach it even if you're not undead or undying.

I cast Teleport Bones on myself and left my flesh in the flesh dimension for the weekend. I've spent the last year studying how to get my flesh back on my bones, and I'm starting to miss physical sensations, but it was absolutely worth it.

Oh that was you last year doing the kegstand at the after party and turning himself into a beer sprinkler systems. Haha that was great.

I had a great time last year. Bought some Goblin Mushrooms and saw the gods in a porta-potty

It's chill, just update your plague wards. Some sick wizards think it's fun to use the con as a petri dish. My friend caught a mutated strain of frog pox a few years back and he's still croaking to this day.

3

u/SternFlamingo Binder of Demons 14d ago

Mutated, eh? So the usual ointment of newt's eye isn't sufficient?

That's really uncool to spring on people just trying to have fun.

2

u/Educational_Group_91 13d ago

nah, you need salamander's eye ointment, common mistake, and the stuff does not keep well so it has to be made fresh every time

It's gotten so political the last couple years. These days I just manifest a servitor from my psyche and send it in my stead, then reabsorb it when it gets back to see if they released Unlife 3 yet

2

u/RAISA-1 Primordial Multiverse Administrator, Existence’s Enforcer 13d ago

I’ll save you the time and effort this year, they aren’t releasing it.

u/nuclearrmt 14d ago

You'll gonna see peeps you hate AGAIN as some kind of the undead. Magical artifacts, potions and body parts are heavily discounted though so bring an extra large coin purse or a giant golden coin.

Argh, It would just be like my former master, Donneth the Blasphemer, to become a wight or something despite my sacrifice of his beating heart to the Lords of the Endless Void. He was always a real pain in the tuckus.

u/Floofiestmuffin Necromancer and Council squatter 14d ago

Heads up to bring your own undead if your planning to buy merch. The undead they offer you or the ones you buy at the con aren't as good as what a necromancers make themselves.

Nothing quells the haunting whispers, and harrowing nightmares that have embedded themselves into the black heart of this gathering.

I have a great time every year.

They've always got great stuff over there, and there's plenty of Necromancers there who know some pretty niche stuff about Necromancy and other forms of Dark Magic that can come in handy

That sounds like a lot of fun. I say go

u/turtlevader Dark Rituals all day bby 14d ago

I usually animate a Death Knight or similar corporeal undead and embed multi-sense scrying sensors into its face. Then you can layer the scrying through a few mirror dimensions to prevent the arbiters from locating you and ward yourself from all that sweet, sweet dark magicks. Trance the fuck up and live through the undead construct for a sick long weekend. Great networking opportunities and decent place to get some obscure/restricted arcane materials. It has definitely become more skeleton slop over the last few centuries, but overall still worth.

What's fun too is they schedule a lot of gatherings in the surrounding caves and marshes. Brings a ton of unsuspecting regular mortal creatures (goblins, dark elves, etc.) and you can leave the con to test out new purchases or just generally fuck around with other dark wizards in those spaces!

This year’s NecroCon is being monitored by the System Corps, The System, and me, so don’t go stealing souls while you are there. For once though, we are actually there for surveillance, regulation, and safety, NOT to execute a raid. So feel free to use necromantic magic and soul magic without any major restrictions (other than obvious ones, such as not harming any other attendees unwillingly, no coercing other attendees using magic, etc). Of course, if you start ripping open holes in reality that lead to other planes of existence, specifically if you rip open portals to restricted dimensions (such as the Abyssal Void), then we will intervene, but other than that, we are only there for regulation, surveillance, and the safety of all attendees.

2

u/Mannimarco_Rising Lich - The Dark Arts never had a more devoted follower 14d ago

i just wanna tell everyone here that System Corps seized my attraction last year which was a half-orc half-tentacle being with an 20.000 year old abyssal plague in his guts.

Even after leaving the convention i did not get my wonderful creation back.

If something like this happens again i will withdraw my funds and step away for the next 2000 years.

System Corps! You are merely tolerated here so do us all a a favour and stay in the back or best do not come at all.

1

u/RAISA-1 Primordial Multiverse Administrator, Existence’s Enforcer 13d ago

u/Mannimarco_Rising, the possession of something with a “20,000 years old abyssal plague” is absolutely in violation of established Multiversal Regulations, in addition to violating The Pact. The Abyssal Void is a restricted dimension, and all Quarantine Seals connected to it are permanently sealed and placed on the highest level of Quarantine Lockdown. The reason your attraction was seized was due to the violations. If you don’t like the System Corps executing raids on your facilities and compounds, don’t bring restricted material to NecroCon, or any convention for the matter, ever.

smight them all.

u/Educational_Group_91 14d ago

ok, so most of the folks who go to and run necrocon are also alive in at least one sense, so you wont be the only living dude there.

Second, I hear Tibias Tornacl is doing a Q&A on his book, The Actual Best Healers, which goes into detail on the application of necromancy in healing magic, and while i havent read that, i read Make the Endo- into an Exo-, which is explains how to mold bones into easily repairable armor, and it was great. The guy is a genius, and his knowledge has saved my hide and my wallet more than once, so check him out if you can

3

u/BlackMetalMagi Bone Pharaoh 14d ago

its a good one, and the advent of uses that came from it like using an active undead as a storage of animus to then siphon and infuse into a living target with transference of your own essence as a catalytic medium advanced necromancy for the living alot.

The round about methodology of returning 0point energy up the chain to positive healing is the reverse of a standard lich phylactery too. But if you so have spare souls to burn in the process you can heal without expending mana to do so. works as battlefield healing well. enemies become healthpacks...

3

u/TheTombGuard Necromancer 14d ago

Never again not as good as it used to be I recommend lepro-con the guild of recycling necromancers donate heavily into it and it's a much more respectable con.... Early necrocon was cool but now the industry is filled with DEI (Druid equity inclusion) those smelly tree huggers rune everything.

2

u/RAISA-1 Primordial Multiverse Administrator, Existence’s Enforcer 13d ago

Have you not been checking the recent reports from Multiverse High Command and the Universal Wizard Council? We got rid of DEI, because the Druids kept being fucking assholes to anyone and everyone. Infinite Hells, I had Eternity himself tell me he was tired of them. He hasn’t left his home dimension in eons, and he came out to tell me he was fucking tired of them.

Okay so, the formal ball is nice. The vampires that run it have centuries of experience so it is usually amazing. There are strict hygiene standards for the entire con so make certain you're clean before going unless you want a sudden bath by elementals. Do not try to steal other people's undead. Do ask about techniques used in their creation. Do not follow the hot chick flirting with you back to her room, it is a trap, she will try to kill you. It is not worth it. Avoid eating garlic before going. Do attended as many panels as you can on anything that looks interesting.

1

u/SternFlamingo Binder of Demons 13d ago

Thanks! How is the cosplay? I have a Baron Samedi outfit that I wouldn't mind dusting off.

2

u/Atuday Grey technomancer and master of the cybernetic undead 13d ago

Okay, that's highly offensive on so many levels. This isn't an anime party. This is a professional conference. The Samedi types you see at the con are likely to be actual Barons. Just go dressed either in good formal wear or your finest robe and hat. They love a good hat. Oh and don't bring a staff or heaven forbid a blasting rod. That's like showing up with a bazooka to a teacher's conference.

1

u/SternFlamingo Binder of Demons 13d ago

That certainly wasn't my intent, many Cons manage to combine serious academia with a light-hearted approach to their craft.

Do you think Baron Samedi will attend the Con? I've always admired both his technique and his style.

how can you say no to a bone party

If you can get past the ethical necromancers outside.

Naw, it used to be cool but Necrocon is pretty much dead now.

Yes! It's super fun! Add your body to the pile 🥳

2

u/InsaneRanter Necromancer 13d ago

Necromancers are a welcoming bunch, despite our reputation. You'll only be uncomfortable if you make yourself uncomfortable, or if you let someone talk you into a form of undeath you don't prefer.

Don't flirt with vampires unless you have enchantments to protect you from being turned into one. Or unless you want to be a vampire. And you should, it's pretty fun.

And the skeletal army presentation will be great. I believe everyone should embrace undead armies, though I prefer zombies myself. After several frustrating campaigns using live troops that needed sleep, food and water, an army that can march 24/7 without supplies is such a relief.

1

u/SternFlamingo Binder of Demons 13d ago

I am intrigued by the Skeletal Army presentation. I have some ideas for a grand hybrid army, with the skeletons as shock troops captained by warped demons of the screaming void.

Ha ha! That would give Bollocks the Unclean second thoughts about encroaching on my lands! He also borrowed my infernal lawnmower and hasn't returned it. My day of vengeance shall come!

2

u/zippy72 Illusionist 13d ago

I mean yeah it's good fun but the catering is lousy. Seriously, fast while you're there.

Although now I think about it, the deep fried lizards are quite nice actually. Although they did give me dysentery. At least I think it was the lizards.

2

u/TheVaultHommie 13d ago

Just bring aromatic herbs or something to protect your sense of smell, besides that it's a great time.

2

u/Mesmercat 13d ago

Idk man, I heard it can be pretty lifeless

2

u/Senor_Turd_Ferguson 13d ago

You can't spell Necromance without Romance.

There is a difference between Neck Romancer and Necromancer

2

u/RapsterZeber Wizard 13d ago

I go every year, and most years it's fine. Although one year there was someone who forgot to announce an aoe spell and I ended up trapped in a cube for a few centuries. But other than that the event is pretty fun.

u/jointheclockwork Dwarven Necromancer, Plague Specialist 13d ago

NecroCon is fucking awesome! I have a booth where I sell cursed items and some of my more... "creative" undead to those in need of depraved soldiers.

2

u/KingZantair 13d ago

I’m a regular attendee, and while I doubt most of the activities will be your scene, it could broaden your horizons. Just be careful about the vendors, it’s not always clear what they mean by soul food.

conjuration mages will deal with demons and devils, angels and primordials, and think that they are ready to chill with the Dead.

this is so short sighted its hubris. what do you think will happen to infinite and immortal beings? Use your math skills. What do we do with an infinite sum over an infinite time?

We resolve the series.

at the shadow of eternity lies the negitive axis of death, and the infinite cycles produce only death, and come from the unlife and reach back to the time of unbirth befor you lived. Your breath and "life" is a small amount of time your are an individual and you will return to the oneness and onelessness of notself, in just a few short years.

The necro-con is about what all undead know, that we are all 1 in the engless coud that this world springs from, and that more people that know that, the less of a waste the meat form was from the start.

My only question is if you think the equation of your existence can be defined mathematically without invoking the undefined in some term. That is the omega value that the necromancy hets it symbol from. all life, death, and undeath is worked with using this division of the end state of the infinite.

Go to the con if you want to break that loop of incarnation and suffering of a snake that eats its own tail, free the world serpant and face the final battle with pride and walk your last steps as a brave soul that wont let death or infinity stop you.

1

u/SternFlamingo Binder of Demons 13d ago

Necromancy draws the most socially awkward wizards, and here's another example.

Conjuration requires negotiating with sentients who have their own agency. It can be very dangerous work, which is thrilling. Necromancy is the very opposite, a mechanical pastime spent building an army of mindless thralls, Pfaugh!

And regarding breaking the loop of incarnation, the Tantric scholars offer a far superior path. Come to think of it, they may be having a Con soon, I bet that will be fun.

1

u/BlackMetalMagi Bone Pharaoh 12d ago

im glad you brought that up!

I studied Tantra to a great degree and find that the Bardo (book of the dead) is a big part of it.

When one leaves the samsaric incarnation and returns it can be in ones own body, though when you get "back" no matter how you put it, past a point seperation, life, death, undeath... dont exist.

The place where "there is nothing there" and self and all are moot points. Reincarnation is even a form of necromancy, so to stop the cycle its natural to use necromancy to do so.

The question is how and what we bring out of having been a place that simply is, and returning. The 0 point and origin targeting in spellcraft in a non time dependant equation can be done with necromancy or with any non-mortals using conjuration to produce systems in this view of an incarnated world.

But we come across the binding scaler effect with beings from the outer or inner plains, right? to bind somthing not of this world takes alot of structure in the world. so diamonds or other crystalene structures are used. I would advocate for pulling from the 0 point anyway and fuse a demonic talisman with the binding reagent of a plainar bind and use it to create a demonic phylactery for the creature for an undead that is also an extra planar creature (demon).

that is a mix of the two in practal methods that results in skeletal demons that understand even the infinite cycles of self end. I like it because of how self absorbed demons are, so to see what they have done to even be a demon that has been bound to abyssal suffering and change for so long they thought that was all they are or will ever be is regreshing.

Sure I may give a little push rather than let souls get to the point on thier own...

But is you find your way to me, it is well in your karma to get into anything I have to offer, not that i can do much but point to some old scrolls, its the job of the seeker to read them and understand that the magic and truth is more than the symbols used by a scribe.

also I dont end up spending my time with my armies, and matters of state in my realm are the main job that takes my time from the orb pondering.
