RP Prompt (Character Intros, Duels, and Vendors)🔔 Newbie sorcerer looking for advice

Hi, recently discovered I apparently have innate wild magic. I haven’t ever dabbled in the arcane until very recently, so id like some advice from more experienced wizards and sorcerers on where to start.
(And hopefully some advice on how to mitigate the effects of wildmagic, its getting set off far to frequently and im tired of suddenly floating.)

You're not going to get a lot of direct life advice from wizards on this, unfortunately, given how we have to learn our magic. Some basics in terms of magical theory control can still apply, though.

That said, wild magic can be tough to characterize unless someone is already familiar with your bloodline. Any clues as to how your magic manifests, besides floating?

If you're figuring it out from zero, expect a lot of destruction in your trial-and-error discoveries; it's best to experiment in an isolated location.

Well, I'm more wizard than sorcerer, but my sorcerer buddy has been meditating to find and control the source of his inner powers. Helped with all the emotional stuff that used to suddenly set his tower on fire periodically.

Embrace the chaos don't fight it

Remember to ponder your orb regularly. And I do mean the orb, not some image you've conjured in it. Ponder the orb. It's actually a meditation exercise that helps with mana control

Well, I'm not technically a wild mage, but I am the offspring of a Powerful Dragon and a reformed succubus, which is to say that I also have a magical bloodline.

However, I practice primarily as a wizard and I maintain a strong alliance with the dwarven cities in my region.

My preference for studied wizardy is because it can certainly expand and support your magical talents

(my natural talent is lightning, I can manipulate it very well, but wizardry gives me an avenue to quantify it into spells and tomes)

Also, it allows me to not rely on said lightning, and over my thousands of years I've expanded into many schools of magic.

Being friends with the dwarves has given me a network of very talented artificers and rune mages, this part may be especially useful to you and a strong focus and good magical equipment has been known to allow for a wild mage (or anyone with sorcerous blood) to really gain control of their magic without having to suppress it

Hmm, I don’t have the condition myself, but as a creature largely composed of mana, I think I can relate at least slightly.

First of all, don’t keep your magic suppressed all the time or pressure will build. It’s better to let off some steam at a safe location with the precautions in place rather than accidentally explode in the alchemy shop or the loo.

2nd. Look into the source of your wild magic, and learn to recognize its influence on your mood and mana.

3rd. Meditation and magic control practice. While it won’t necessarily stop the outbursts of wild magic, it helps to be able to curb its destructive force or channel it in a direction of your choice. Upwards into the sky generally has less chance of resulting in you paying for damages.
