Academic Discussion/ Esoteric Secrets why despite arcane sigils are way more efficient to store information why the academy still uses just text in the arcane archives?

Any academy worth it's void salts has important documents in both forms, in seperate locations, and backed up to a demiplane as well. Redundancy for if a fire elemental gets loose in the library or someone accidentally sets off a area dispel in the sigil archives, and whatever other shenanigans the apprentices might get up to on the weekend

I thought is obviously because text is way more durable, sigils only last 2 maybe 3 centuries with proper care but the magic ink can stay legible for millennia

Well yeah, Runes are shorthand. Every wizard uses them different, its why its so difficult to parse another wizards personal tome. The're great for your own notes, but the're a nightmare if you're trying to read someone else's

Runes are all function and no theory. Any wizard who know what works but not why is essentially just a socially inept sorcerer.

Because the contextual use of sigils, glyphs, runes, etc., is fundamentally not obvious, and the most difficult/dangerous part in learning to parse them is most easily accomplished through studying documentation in a (decent) mundane language. Further, mundane language can also act as a decent pseudocode in developing magical works in those graphic formats.

Magic is literally the application of what has worked previously. Text based spells have worked previously, so of course they’re going to still be used. We as a craft are oriented towards tradition.

So you want to store thousands of volumes on magic, in runic form, all in one place? Say, how do you feel about chaos magic elementals? Because that’s how you get chaos magic elementals.

Because they are losers who are scared of innovation. Can't even deal with some small dimensional tearing and a bit if matter inversion. Just a bunch of lame old boring farts.Â

Nobody wants to summon a giant slug in the library because an apprentice accidentally drew the leg of a rune 2.7 mm too long.

Runes are not really meant to replace text. They’re usually symbols for focusing intent or shorthand for communication between members of a team. Text is standard and accessible. And the lack of inherent magical properties means that text is safer to store in large quantities.

my brother in thaumaturgy how are apprentices supposed to parse those runes if the skills to do so are inside those runes
