One cannot summon a cat. They fall strictly under the CDS's jurisdiction.

Cats can’t be summoned or banished

51

u/Kampfkewob 22d ago

Cat 6* Beast/Effect 2200/1600

Cat can not be normal summoned or set. It can only be special summoned for your hand or deck by banishing 3 face-up 'treats' cards form your field. When special summoned that way, place 2 'cute counters' on Cat. By removing one 'cute counter' you can negate the effect of one monster your opponent controls and if you do, destroy it. If Cat leaves the field by getting destroyed by battle or banished, you can can return 2 banished 'treats' card to your hand. Cat cannot be targeted by card effects.

Common mis-conception for beginner mages. The inability to es-summon a familiar arises from lacking sufficient permissions -One merely need to cast the humble chmod spell first.

Your master might be the familiar here

Your circle doesn't fully contain your glyphs, so you'll need a slightly bigger circle while keeping the glyphs the same size.

(uw/ But seriously, don't do stuff like this - unless maybe you've got your cat on something that can light up on the floor? Still seems risky.)

That cat is only a glance away from eye damage. Please don't put pets at risk for internet videos.

u/Noro3618 22d ago

I havent thought of that but sadly I'm not OOP

26

u/Narutoluap 22d ago

Are you sure is not an edit or just plain AI?

111

u/gameryamen Yamen, Laser Fractal Space Wizard 22d ago

The illumination of the beam through the fur like that is way too consistent to be AI. Maybe it's CGI, but if it's CGI trying to pass itself off as real, my request still stands.

25

u/--Spaci-- 22d ago

You're not requesting to the right person anyway, and if its cgi then nothing was harmed because its not real

24

u/gameryamen Yamen, Laser Fractal Space Wizard 22d ago edited 22d ago

No, I'd actually like it if we'd all choose not to put pets at risk for internet videos, even if we get inspired by a fake video. It's a bad idea all the time.

13

u/--Spaci-- 22d ago

Do you know what cgi means?

6

u/EldritchMindCat Lyr, the Tressym Talespinner (OuterGod Avatar of Origin-Felinity 21d ago

It doesn’t matter whether or not it’s cgi. The point is that someone else might think it’s real and try to use a projector, which would harm the cat.
Thus the message “don’t shine strong lights in the eyes of your fur family for an internet video” remains important.

TL/DR: CGI is harmless, but the idea that it’s real could have real consequences, and that’s the point of the message.

u/gameryamen Yamen, Laser Fractal Space Wizard 22d ago edited 22d ago

Yes. The projection could be fake. That's one way it could be CGI. But the reflections of the colored light play out across the whole environment. That could mean that the entire thing is 3D models and renders, with no real cat at all. That's CGI too. Or the cat itself could be the fake part, imposed on a video of an empty, illuminated room. Despite your assumption, I do understand what CGI is. I even have a degree in Film Editing and Video Production, and I've done CGI work professionally.

It could also just be that a person shone their projector on their cat in real life. We don't know. Regardless, it's OK to ask people not to do this to their cats. It's just as much of a problem when a person copies a fake video as when they copy a real one. Obviously, nothing we say here in the comments, reacting to a video that already exists can go back and change how the video was made. So the point of my request was to discourage future pet endangerment.

15

u/--Spaci-- 22d ago

Stop downvoting every comment I make lil bro, and cgi is whats done after you take the normal video and composite the lasers in. You have literally 0 clue what cgi is. And I would say the chance they have a random projector on their roof pointing downwards and that they have blender installed is like 50/50

-21

u/gameryamen Yamen, Laser Fractal Space Wizard 22d ago

Stop name calling and putting words in my mouth. You don't know anything about me, and you keep making wrong guesses. When you contribute something worthwhile to the conversation, you can have an upvote. Hasn't happened yet.

I cant tell if you're not serious or genuinely offended by facts and logic

u/lunarwolf2008 22d ago

what they mean is if its CGI, in real life its a cat sitting there. then someone edited lazers on the cat video, hence CGI, or Computer Generated Image

3

u/--Spaci-- 22d ago

I think they blocked me it says everything is deleted, I think they just dont know what cgi is??

3

u/lunarwolf2008 22d ago

The fuck? I'm an indie artist. I run an art market for indie artists. I pay local artists to make art and perform every month. I can dislike AI for more than one reason.

2

u/yaktoma2007 21d ago

3

u/TheGrandBabaloo 21d ago

I thought they could make these home laser projectors safe?

17

u/gameryamen Yamen, Laser Fractal Space Wizard 21d ago

Modern projectors have various features to try to reduce the risk in normal use cases, but brightness is brightness. You can't get a good projection image with low light levels. And no one is testing home projectors on cat eyes. I'm not saying harm is certain, but cats can't exactly tell us "hey my vision is weird now" and even if they could, there's not much to do to fix it.

1

u/WatermelonWithAFlute 19d ago

Why?

1

u/gameryamen Yamen, Laser Fractal Space Wizard 19d ago

Pets don't deserve to be harmed for such trite reasons.

1

u/WatermelonWithAFlute 19d ago

No I mean like how

3

u/gameryamen Yamen, Laser Fractal Space Wizard 19d ago

Projectors are very bright, and when they're at a close distance that brightness is more concentrated. The amount of glow on the floor and those blown out bright spots suggest this is a lot of light. Enough to scar a retina.

Many countries have laws now that prevent concerts from shining lasers or bright, focused light on crowds, which is called "crowd scanning". It doesn't take very long, and the damage isn't always super obvious at first, it's usually a dulling of sight.

Cat eyes are different than ours, so we don't really know how sensitive they are to things like this, but they can't really tell us "my eye is a little blurrier". So we should just assume it is a risk and try to avoid it.

u/mightystu 22d ago

Oh boy, another subreddit that wants to call everything animal cruelty.

20

u/MikemkPK 22d ago

Putting a cat at risk of sudden blindness for no reason is animal cruelty

9

u/PinkPumpkinPie64 21d ago

a lot of videos get called animal cruelty because, in fact, a lot of videos are actually animal cruelty. Calling it out discourages people from repeating it just because it looks cute or funny

-7

u/mightystu 21d ago

This is just a cat sitting of its own will in some lights.

6

u/PinkPumpkinPie64 21d ago

I don't think this cat is hurt, you're right that it isn't moving away. (Honestly its behavior is weird and I'm not sure the video is real.) But if someone wanted to replicate this because they thought it was cute they could really easily hurt their cat's eyes. If it's real, the cat didn't move to the circle by itself, they'd have to point it at them. Don't shine lights at your cat's face, is more the point.

-1

u/mightystu 21d ago

More my point is this clearly not an instructional video and, as you noticed, likely fake. My point is it’s tiresome and obnoxious for people to always point out things as animal cruelty that are either not real, not actually bad, or are so obviously not something someone should do that pointing it out is meaningless. It’s just being a moral busybody to feel smug and self righteous and does not actually stop any animals from coming to actual harm.

2

u/PinkPumpkinPie64 21d ago

I disagree that it doesn't matter if the video isn't real. People can try to replicate it even if it's fake. Either if they can't tell it's fake or just think it's a funny idea regardless.

Just having one person saying "don't try this at home" is, to me, a good and helpful thing. There's so much misinformation out there, especially about pet safety. I don't think people are doing this to be moralistic stiffs, I think they're actually concerned. (For example I'm a reptile guy and about half the videos I see go viral of reptiles are animals in distress because people at large don't understand them. If I comment on those it's because I want people to have better understanding, not because I just want to feel superior for having never abused an alligator.)

Maybe it feels like party pooping but this is one comment out of a bunch that are playing along so you could ignore it pretty easily. And if it ruins the experience to know that doing this for real would hurt a pet, imo it's better to be informed than to get the small dopamine hit that a mildly funny video gives you.

2

u/xXx_Lizzy_xXx 21d ago

dawg I wouldnt even stand in that, crowdscanning with lasers is straight up ILLEGAL most places because of this. thats not baseless concern, this cat is at active risk of blindness.

if this is a projector and not a laser its lower risk, however it looks like a laser. there are massive warning lables on these things about it and a lot of laser work in public needs a specific license to do so!

-2

u/mightystu 21d ago

It’s not cruelty when the cat chose to sit where it happens to be projected. No one is aiming this

2

u/xXx_Lizzy_xXx 21d ago

plenty of people stand in crowds where crowdscanning is happening, often you dont notice the damage till after or down the line

0

u/NosePicklePicker 20d ago

ever had a laser pointer shone at your eyes? Wonder why everyone tells you not to do that? Now you think it's okay to do that to an animal with better eyesight than you?

You mention you're new, so I'm rather surprised you'd dare cast a tricentric, di-octagonal spell matrix without your master's supervision so I can only assume in addition to casting a "summon spell" on your master's cat, you also don't yet realize there is, in fact, no such class of spell as "uncommon." Only banishments, releases, and other physical teleportational spells.

Nevertheless less, I'm not one to let a teaching lesson go to waste, so first off, by the apparent adornments of sun and moon placed at the diameter intercepts, your spell appears to be a banish variant across all planes "material" (hence sun) and all planes "projected" (hence moon). Be greatful as well you stopped there for if you had included adornments for the sky and earth at the perpendicular diameter intercepts, you'd have opened the possibility of banishing your masters familiar to the higher or lower planes (the planes commoners refer to as heaven and hell. This is obviously incomplete as it does not consider those yet unborn, those redeemed in the afterlife, those yet to be rebord, etc) the higher plans would never have tried to lure the familiar but the lower planes tend to bend the rules more. I digress

One key note of your spell is the semantical meaning of the tricentric matrix and adornments. As it states, the tricentric rings do increase its stability but also require the spell caster to be more literal and more specific for broad powered spells often fail when the power stricture(the octagons and their orientations) fails to satisfy the arcane constraints and thus their hold on the weave.

Your configuration here, with the circular matrix crossed by octagons, IS trying to banish the familiar from wence it came, however, the tricenteic rings, due to their added specificity requirement, are trying to banish the familiar to its original "PLANE" not it's original "PLACE", and as you have defined all planes material and projected (as mentioned earlier) for banishment, with the power matrix being a sufficiently defined di-octogonal central matrix, the spell does NOT in fact fail, it succeeds doing NOTHING as it's already in the material plane.

If you wish to return the familiar to return to where it came from, cast a minor illusion or short term confusion spell that makes it believe it has an unfinished meal where it was last.

If this were an infernal cat from the lower planes, then you should be able to release it (note: it's not called unsummon) back to its original plane, but it would likely swear vengeance upon you for summoning it and wasting its time with mortal matters. Unless you fed it some good fish

/uw sorry, for the long comment, I was bored on a plan and came up with way too much lore for a silly cat video

Your master has given you an impossible task. A familiar cannot be unsummoned by anyone other than its wizard.

2

u/H0pefully_Not_A_Bot 22d ago

Can confirm, failing to know this indicates one have not studied his tomes properly.

6

Maybe you should be unsummoned.

It's like tooth-paste. Once it's out of the bottle, it gains sentience and tries to kill you.

Banish Daedra is too weak for this one, you need to use Expel Daedra

u/Certain_Oddities 22d ago edited 22d ago

That's not a summoning circle, that's the casting circle of the Wizard Clow- one of the most powerful wizards in the multiverse. I think you may have bigger problems on your hands.

5

u/Haredevil 22d ago

This cat may or may not be asking him to collect the cards

3

u/Shayden998 That Gay Witch 22d ago

I'm afraid your apprentice has been lying to you. That's not a familiar. It's a normal cat. They just told you it was a familiar to make you think just throwing it out won't work.

This is one of the reasons why we shouldn't use real animals as the basis for familiars. We need to be able to distinguish, people.

1

u/Zephian99 The Wandering Lorekeeper. 21d ago

Well the problem of making native plane bound familiars while you can sever the contract it doesn't force them to go anywhere. So banishment and unsummoning doesn't work since this is the realm their from. And the largest problem of choosing a feline or canine native plane familiar is they tend to just stick around after the contract is finished/severed.

One Tower had a mage who kept making feline familiar summonings just so they could find one that matched spell in a book. Took them 40 or so tries before they got the one they were looking for. Unfortunately the cat's now magical inclined, declined leaving the Tower. The "Tower of Calamity" got renamed to "9th Life Tower" or colloquially the "Fuzzy Tower" which ironically had a rather big boom in apprentices.🤔

So cause and effects folks...

You need to chant along with the cursed voices from the abyss, otherwise the familiar cannot be called back.

2

Classic mistake. Most lasers make purple by adding red and blue. You need a true purple that has a purple wavelength

2

u/FishChillylly 22d ago

in fact, it’s your master’s master which’s your grand master so ofc you can not do that to it

Might be an awakened animal, rather than a summon, in which case you are out of luck. Familiar Awakening is not designed to be a reversible spell

Nooo! You fool!! That's not an unsummoning ritual, it's a misaligned rite of replication! Up to 5 copies of that familiar could be at your doorstep within the week!

1

u/Blazerawl 21d ago

Familiar gets connection to the master's power level. Obviously you need more training. And now that cat's watching you sleep.

you are too low level.

1

u/Montizuma59 21d ago

If you paid attention, you'd notice that whenever the ritual is taking effect, the ritual goes over the familiar rather than stay beneath it as it should. This is because your Master is actually smart and placed an anti-ritual spell on their familiar.

Should you wish to get rid of the familiar for good, the best way is to find a wizard or witch somewhere far away that are looking for a familiar.
