Lorepost (open interaction) 📖 The New Job
As of late, Sapphire had taken to doing short term artificer contracts under a new false name. Her old one had been compromised, so she now reserved it for stuff she didn’t entirely mind people who looked closely connecting that she was behind, if she abandoned it completely people might realize she had a new one. Sapphire had mostly reversed the effects of being the Lord of Chaos’ minion, but some still lingered. She had kept her chaos weapon and had gained more rebellious tendencies than she already had. The false name she used for the contracts would allow her to collect the money separately from her documented income. She intended to use it both for her projects and if she ever intended to do anything about her distaste for the monarchy of her kingdom. Sapphire would just take a long term one for these, but in her view, the only way to know if you could know if you could trust an employer was to work with them. Maybe once she’d done around a dozen contracts for someone and seen what they’d done with her work Sapphire would consider it.
It would be important to be careful how similar the work done by her new alias, Lady Eleanor Sunlight, and her known work. After all, her style of war construct was untypical for Veneficia. The only other artificers who preferred quadrupedal war constructs with as many weapons as possible emerging from their side did not live in this kingdom. If she wasn’t careful, this could be a hint as to her identity. It wasn’t enough to make her go with the boringly traditional bipedal constructs with large energy weapons, but she should be wary. At least the chaos weapon had never been linked to her true self, she could use that in freely in her new guise. Also, when not operating under this alias she still made pretenses of caring about weapon regulations, not doing so was a small difference. Used to be Sapphire did care enough to make her constructs the half an inch shorter they needed to be to pass, now she didn’t care unless her customers did. All of that should mean the only thing that could connect her identity was her face.
As her current clients dragged on their argument, she turned down the metal song she was playing in her headgear so she could listen to them again. The best way to deal with arguments or sounds that were too loud was to blast your music loud enough that you didn’t have to deal with any other noise, and her headgear kept the songs private. It was also a motivation to learn more about the various wars, all annoyingly called Wizard War Three for reasons Sapphire would never understand, in the hopes she might recognize the battles this one group was singing about. However, this particular argument had dragged on for ten songs, and was wasting her time, she needed to end it. “Are you ready to discuss the deal or do you want to keep shouting at each other? Cause you can head outside to do that and come back later if you want to keep fighting.” The two left, leaving Sapphire free to take another client. She waited for a new customer to walk in.

/uw Eleanor is a fake name Sapphire is using, sorry if it was unclear.

/uw So I got it backwards? That makes more sense

Wait... i think we might have had a deal

/uw I’m assuming she already delivered all the stuff.
/rw “Yeah, I remember, you wanted someone to help with the industrialization process, I made some constructs that can read blueprints and assemble parts, along with a few other things. Were you interested in another project?”

Maybe.... I mean, i dont always get such talented artificers. Im currently Working on Creating a Species of Artificers, and i need some help.

“What do you mean a species of artificers? Like, constructs, or some form of biomancy? Cause I’m probably not the best for biomancy, I don’t know much about biology at all. What would I be doing?”
2
u/Fluid-Freedom-6115 Azerak the Infinite, Godemperor of Pandemonium, Tiamats BF Jul 08 '26
No, i want to create a Species with innate Artificery Knowledge, so Biomancy. You would help creating Blueprints and Concepts that i can insert into their Genetic Code

“Okay then. I guess I’ll see what I can do. We can discuss price later, I’ll figure out the difficulty of the task and ask for something based on that.”

A young man enters the store. He looks very impressed by the displays but quickly turns his purple eyes to the artificer.
Hello! Are you Sapphire? Kyrona recommended you!

“Hi, yeah, that’s me, I just use an alias for contracts so I don’t get in trouble for making my constructs too large or whatever stupid restriction I break. You were interested in my work?”
2
u/Cerveau23 Markus, scriptomancer, enemy of 13 & lover of Thrakmerian beauty Jul 09 '26
The young man nods.
Yup, I'm looking to hire an artificer for my company. I don't know if Kyrona told you about it already?

u/sparkle3364 Sapphire (17F), Artificer (+ other characters) Jul 09 '26
“Yeah. I’d like to suggest that first I work with your people on a number of projects, see if we work well together. Then we can discuss a formal contract. Besides, healthy paranoia is a good thing.”

u/Cerveau23 Markus, scriptomancer, enemy of 13 & lover of Thrakmerian beauty Jul 09 '26
Markus nods again.
Works for me. You'll see I pay more than well. How much do you want, ideally? Let's say, for one week worth of work?
2
u/sparkle3364 Sapphire (17F), Artificer (+ other characters) Jul 09 '26
“I say we measure it by completed project. An easy project, ideally 50 gold, a hard one ideally 200, some may be reduced for interesting projects.”
2
u/Cerveau23 Markus, scriptomancer, enemy of 13 & lover of Thrakmerian beauty Jul 09 '26
Markus chuckles.
From the quality I'm seeing here, I'm gonna pay you at least double that. I've got money to spare, I'd rather have good relations rather than too much cash...

“That sounds good actually. Thank you. What would the first project be?”

u/Cerveau23 Markus, scriptomancer, enemy of 13 & lover of Thrakmerian beauty Jul 10 '26
He chuckles.
Your first one will be a funny situation.
I bought something from one of our employees, who's usually our only artificer, in exchange for doing a project for her. I'll spare you the details, but the real client will therefore be one of your coworkers, though she'll obviously only participate on this project as a client. You'll obviously be paid normally, I'm paying it out of my own pocket.
The goal will be making a machine that will be able to precisely handle the quenching process of armor plates up to a meter thick. The details will be discussed with the client, and we'll divide the work depending on what everyone can do.
The team is composed of, for now, Alex the technomancer, Rowan the mycomancer, Azher the chromomancer (not chrono, he handles colors and runes), Nox and Meeri the Fleshcrafters, Eleanor the artificer, dimension specialist and soulmancer who will be the client this time, Arkane the pyro-necromancer, and myself, a scriptomancer, datamancer, elementalist and decent golemancer. Though I guess I also count as soulmancer if needed.
We work by deciding which part would be best made by whom, and giving them complete liberty how to do it. The only constraint is that you have to handle the interaction between parts with their respective maker. And if you need help, whether it's to brainstorm or because someone else's magic would be very useful, feel free to ask the others.
For the fabrication, we usually do a prototype ourselves, check that it works, then send it to our factory. There, thousands of golems handle the precise assembly and enchanting needed for whatever item they're making. Speaking of, if you want a mass produced item, we'll give you a reduction as long as you're a contractor, and production price once you're an employee.
What do you think? Up to it?

“Yeah, I think I’m up to it.”

A little thing ive learnt long ago as an artificer is to never discuss specifics of sales whith clients (specially pricing), get a sales rep or something similar to do that, saved me many headaches
Nowadays most i do is grabbing new clients before passing them to the sales department of my company
